***********************************************

Hello everyone,

For those who don't know, Atomikwave, under the name NCI, regularly publishes NeoGeo AES games reproductions of high quality in limited quantities.
It's a French production but also sold worldwide.

We have observed since too long a lot of people who buy these copies and sell them at exhilarating prices, especially for people outside Europe. We want to give as many people as possible access to these reproductions.

That’s why we decided to open the pre-orders also on Arcade Project to reach the greatest number and because this forum has a great community compared to many other forums.

PLEASE READ THIS TOPIC BEFORE POSITIONING 🙂
Please avoid spam on this topic because it serves as a follow-up.

These are reproduction carts of the highest quality.

I've been through one these pre-orders over on neogeo-system.com and everything went very smooth.

They can be created while standing on the holiest of NeoGeo World carpets, but if they aren't licensed they're bootlegs pure and simple.

I didn't think this game was popular enough for fancy bootlegs. Am I mistaken?
Edit I googled ... wow...I'm at a loss for words.

Maybe you or someone can explain what higher quality means? And maybe price out the parts to create these things? When I think of bootleg, I think of cheap $ as well.. example, a member makes MVS conversions for $65 shipped. That’s bootleg done right, cheap and I think high quality. I know that AES is a different beast but the concept should be the same. An AES bootleg should not cost that much.. if it was licensed by me “SNK”:) now, I understand the cost because it would be supporting the company and maybe releasing the entire library in the future and the possibility of new games and new IPs.

Thanks for your support and for confirming that these are incredible reproductions that allow access to a new AES game without paying several thousand dollards ! 🙏

In fact, new design pcb with decrypted rom, tested at 100%. High quality snaplock box, insert printing, manual, ... You can check on video or on the pictures I posted. There's a lot of reviews on YT for each NCI's batch.

Concerning price, If you look on aliexpress, you can find repro with collections inside (161 in 1 is about 170€, Metal Slug Collection is 250€) but if you look reviews on YT for those, you will see that the cartridge and the shockbox are cheap quality, insert and manual are bad printed, ...

Concerning the price of NCI's repro, they are resold very expensive on the different platforms.

For exemple, I just made a quick search on eBay.com for successful sales for NCI :
If I take a look on YAJ for NCIs :
  • Samurai Shodown Zero special is sold at ¥100,000 (658,12€)
  • Breakers 2 is sold at ¥129,800 (854,25€)
  • ...
And we're talking about NCI repros, not original games in these example 😅

You can also check on the other links I gave were you can pre-order the game that number of people already preorder this one :
I hope I’ve answered your questions 😊 Don’t hesitate if you have other questions ! 👍

What exactly do you mean when you say:

“These reproductions are sent to SNK”.

That’s a bit ambiguous and possibly misleading to people reading your sales pitch.

No doubt that these are super high quality repros, but without the blessing of SNK, they’re at their very core still extremely unofficial, very unlicensed bootlegs.

Samurai Shodown V Perfect hasn’t been added to the Darksoft MVS/AES cart for good reason, just for an example.

Perhaps a better way of pushing these are that they’re “reproduction / bootleg carts, unlicensed by SNK”.

I could grab a Michael Jackson album and reproduce that on vinyl in fancy packaging with an Obi strip on special coloured vinyl. Send a copy to Sony… But at the end of the day, it’s still nothing more than a bootleg (and pending lawsuit).

Thanks for your advice 🙏

I withdrew that polemical phrase.

Already 46 pre-orders on FB and NGS if you don’t think anyone’s interested.

The goal is to offer them here to as many people as possible in order to avoid finding them on eBay or YAJ at a much higher price.

As mentioned by OP, the NCI reproductions use high quality materials and really nice printed inserts and manuals.

When you buy one of those $65 MVS conversions you're getting a Yaton level cart that was sacked. They're dirty, the labels are crap, and the EPROMS have been recycled more times than one can count. Thats not bootlegs done right, thats the community backing a guy for offering "cheap" solutions to satisfy the demand. There has always been a stigma when it comes NeoGeo bootlegs / reproductions, though only recently has it become acceptable in the MVS world with people defending sacked carts as "conversions" because the supply is drying up and nobody wants to spend $800+ on a copy of a crappy game like Ganryu.

When it comes to reproducing ( or bootlegging ) AES games, its more than just the cartridge shell and a shitty black and white label. You have to reproduce the snaplock, make high quality COLOR prints for the insert, cartridge sticker and multi-page manual WITH a mothafucking baggy ( this is important for AES collectors lol :D ). So when you add all of that on top of the cost to create brand new PCBs with brand new components, then 250euro ( ~$263 ) is a bargin.

I think some of the wording might have been misinterpreted due to OP's first language not being English, either way I don't think their intent was to deceive or make false claims as he was quick to reply that "No official support from them". Anyways it appears he has since corrected his statement in the original post.

Samurai Shodown V Perfect was added to the Darksoft MVS/AES cart, hell I fixed the V-ROMs for it since the conversion tool still doesn't properly handle PCM2 decryption.

Whatever anyone wants to call it, whether it be "bootleg", "reproduction", or "fake". I think it still has value to some people, just like many other "bootleg" products in this hobby that are more widely accepted.

Thank you very much for all these clear explanations 🙏 Indeed, I am not trying to fool anyone. Just that people interested in these copies can benefit from a normal price, that’s all 🙏
