Can I objectively say that I have a JAMMA and not a JVS cabinet

The video I posted talks about the jumper in detail, right about 7min and 15 sec. It's about the only point that Mike makes with much clarity in the video. Everything else is discussed with some assumed knowledge of the trade or the components.

Can I objectively say that I have a JAMMA and not a JVS cabinet

Thanks all! If I am getting all of this right, the 246/256 is in some senses "a JVS", but with some big caveats. For the purposes of converting my cab to a MAME/MiSTer set-up, it seems lowest effort to engage at the JAMMA connector which is right next to the word JAMMA on that PCB. So...

Can I objectively say that I have a JAMMA and not a JVS cabinet

For whatever it's worth, The PCB supporting the monitor has this written on it "NEOTEC NT-500 DXOC01", I've googled it some. It seems they are prone to their own variety of issues, but seems to be operating in VGA mode well enough for me to play. edit: I got a lot of additional perspective from...

Can I objectively say that I have a JAMMA and not a JVS cabinet

Thanks Aurich! I think this SC II manual was just written by someone that wanted to give vague, double answers to everything. It would seem the answer is "both":

Can I objectively say that I have a JAMMA and not a JVS cabinet

I apologize for skipping that detail. I have a Soul Caliber II (rev D) cabinet. It's running on a 246 like ekorz deduced. I definitely have one of those massive harnesses coming off the Happ Controller.

Can I objectively say that I have a JAMMA and not a JVS cabinet

The discussion here (https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/JVS) is a bit confusing: JVS, or Jamma Video Standard (sometimes even called JAMMA 2), is a specification by a JAMMA special sub-committee consisting of the major arcade game manufacturers. JVS specifies the type of connectors to use for video...

Thank you, ShootTheCore! I've gotten a lot out of the first video! I look forward to watching the others! I have to say the level of friendliness and support for this community is awesome!!! I have literally worked for corporations that were not this friendly or organized.

Thank you! That is extremely helpful! I am really considering just jumping straight to MiSTer. I have more aversion to fiddling around with the sub-par, then I do with the cost difference. I've seen references to MiSterCade. Is anyone else suppling that sort of kit?

Thanks Aurich! My over-arching goal is to play the largest possible collection of good arcade games that I can without excess modification. A practical example would be the relationship between ODE (Optical drive emulator?) and IDE (Internal drive emulator?). Most of the terms I see used here...

    Just getting started

Is there a place I can go to get up on my jargon? I'm new to this world, and even though I've spent a few weeks trying to pick up the lingo it has been very slow going.

    Just getting started

Hi, I'm Freekie! I have no former background with arcades, but generally build my own gaming PCs. I got interested in this forum since I was gifted a Soul Caliber II commercial cabinet last year. It was in rough shape when I got it; needed a lot of clean-up. It required months (yes...
