How to Net-boot from Attract Mode Front-end

Oh hey! It's cool that you gave it a try! I haven't touched this in a couple of years, but I can dust it off over the long weekend and try to update it to see if I can make it work with newer boards (Pi 3B+ & Pi 4) and Raspberry Pi OS. That display you linked looks like it's driven via the SPI...

    PIFORCE with game marquee possible?

Good idea! I got this mostly working, I think. I left triforcetools.py untouched but used a new "loader" python script (link) that you can call from Attract Mode which handles loading the image. I started a separate thread with more detailed instructions over here.

How to Net-boot from Attract Mode Front-end

Set up Triforcetools To make this easier, I made a new GitHub repo called piforce-attract. Because of the way that Attract Mode treats different game systems, you’ll probably want to repeat these steps for each system you want to support. (For example, I set up “NAOMI” to be separate from...

How to Net-boot from Attract Mode Front-end

Instructions: Set up your arcade system for net-booting I followed twistedsymphony's tutorial, except that I don't have a Zero-key yet. For my NAOMI IP address, I used 192.168.0.2. You can stop when you get to the section "Setting Up The Raspberry-Pi with Pi-Force Tools." Set up your...

How to Net-boot from Attract Mode Front-end

Hi everyone! Context: twistedsymphony posted an awesome tutorial for how to get started with Net-booting using Piforcetools (link to thread). This info was super helpful, but I didn't have an Adafruit character LCD screen handy so I went looking for other options and saw user thejew's post on...

    First cabinet! Sega Blast City

Next project: Net-booting! User thejew on the Project Ideas forum (link to thread) posted an idea to use Attract Mode with Piforcetools, which sounded much nicer than using a character LCD. It's still a work in progress, but so far I like it! Album link: https://imgur.com/a/JtmjFtp...

    First cabinet! Sega Blast City

Another progress update: I found a NAOMI system on my recent trip to Japan (link to trip report thread and photo post), so my first step was the replace the fan: Link to step-by-step album: https://imgur.com/a/xxB1KNa

    First cabinet! Sega Blast City

Sure thing. I used a Noctua NF-A8 FLX that I bought on Amazon: amazon.com/gp/product/B00NEMG9K6/ It's kind of expensive as fans go, but I figured if I was going to replace it, I only want to do it once so I spent the extra money on a really nice one. It's got silicone dampers on each corner so...

    First cabinet! Sega Blast City

Progress update: It's been slow-going with the holidays and such, but I've swapped the PSU fan. I photographed most of the steps I took for any other newbies who want to follow along, so here's a link to the album (to avoid clogging the forum): https://imgur.com/a/GxOOF And here's the...

    First cabinet! Sega Blast City

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum - my intro thread was only a month ago where I mentioned I was waiting for the right cab, which didn't take long! I'm now the proud owner of a Blast City, courtesy of Cereth's import thread in the trade/sale forum. It arrived on Sunday, so I'm slowly poking...

New from NorCal, starting a (tiny) collection!

Hi everyone, I'm newly-registered, but have been lurking various forums off and on for a while. I mostly collect consoles (including an AES with no carts yet... ;) ), but am looking at getting into cabinets soon. I'm just waiting for the right Astro or Blast City to come along - the right mix...
