CPS2 fakes do not exist. It is definitely a conversion, though. If there is no Infinikey or Arduino device in there, then it is using a Phoenixed romset (method of reviving boards before the Infinikey existed and as a result, uses a Romset that is patched to get around the lack of suicide...

That's sick. There was an arcade local to me that had the Cycraft version. The cockpit was suspended in the air and it would move and articulate as you'd drive. I believe there was an F-Zero AX version released for it too. GLWS!

I guess my whole thought process behind this is to put broken boards back into circulation without having to salvage stuff from another board. This way you are net positive.

The problem with that though is that you're now taking existing boards out of circulation. Or a board that could've been used for something else.

They're just PC's in a box at this point. I don't see why it would run any differently compared to any other platform.

I've got one. A cart that has been destroyed by it's battery but I've removed the corrosion from off the board. There's no plastic shell, just the bare pcb. Shoot me a pm.

We don't know that, Capcom japan was still reviving cps3 carts well into the 2010s and someone found the security programming hardware for cps2 before infinikey existed.

It's interesting to think about what happened to the molds Capcom used for these. Maybe if you'd be able to acquire them somehow you could make these in an economic fashion.

Are you running Linux? It's very easy to make a 1:1 image of the hard disk and write that to another disk. If you're on Windows, setting up WSL environment will let you get access to a Linux terminal and have it run Linux commands. The dd command is what you're looking for.
