Hi everyone...
lately i've bought a "Beatmania: the final" arcade cabinet (inside "konami bemani dj-main hardware")
https://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=826 (more info here)
fact is the 2.5 inch HDD attached to the main board is going to break up pretty soon (actually the game starts only few times)
and i can clearly hear the "tic-tic" sound of the hdd bracket of a faulty hard drive...

Now... i've got no copies of that hdd or a "restore" disk.
Someone said that i could restore the software from mame chd's, so i've tried but beatmania fails at the boot screen checking hardwares...
i've tried with a compact flash and a CF2PATA adapter, and even with a new pata 2.5 hdd... but nothing happen (trying to convert if from pata to CF like the killer instinct main board)
i've also tried to clone the original hdd (on CF & 2.5 pata) but the drive is been only recognized by the bios but once on windows (or linux) it's invisible... like is not attached.
i've tried to clone it by booting the system with acronis or clonezilla... still invisible...
i'm pretty desperate.
PLEASE HELP ;(

UPDATE
pics of the hdd, maybe could be useful

UPDATE: i bought the same HDD (MK6017MAP) hoping that the pcb bios only recognize the same amount of cylinder/head/sectors of the hard drive. I'll keep updating

maybe it's passworded,

the original xbox drive was like that - so was the Lindberg cf card.
both got copied by letting the original system unlock the drive and then hotswapping the ribbon cable over to the pc for a good aplication of DD :)

that's interesting... =O
can you tell me "how to"?
Thanks <3

you use a long power cable and start the machine,
once it's running you move the ribbon cable over to the pc while it's already running - very important that bit!
then in something like partition magic you scan the drives and see if it shows up - if it does then you can copy it.

there are probably simpler ways these days.
what you must not do is disconnect the power or reset the pc - because it will reset the drive to a locked state.

hmmmm that could be a problem..
because it's a 2.5 hdd and the power is provided by the same ribbon cable that is used to transfer data :/

It's just a consolidated 44-pin connector.

Google 40 44 pin ata adapter. Basically if you can find passive adapters for both ends, you can swap the regular 40-pin ATA ribbon cable in between the adapters to another computer.
