Hi !

this time it's not about smoking HDD :P

A friend of mine just purchased a Maximum Force cab.
he says it was working perfectly when he powered it on while with seller,
but back home...well.. surprise !

this is the start screen. (see picture)

my guess is that the HDD is now busted (probably in trip back home)
just to be sure, can anyone tell me if i'm right ? (i told him to go get those compact flash)

afaik it is a regular drive,
but the cable usually has a heavy graphite filter on it - so check it has not come loose in transit.
frankly your friend should have removed the drive before moving the machine - worst case it could have been loose and crashed into his pcb or crt neck!!

Nah it was all fixed. I did told him to be cautious around hdd games since they pretty old. Ooh well, now he s ordered a flash cart for dual game maximum force/ Area51

i think he needs a romswap for that.
and he needs to get the right version - there are 2 different boards with different cpu's on them.

it's not surprising the drive died though, afaik it's not well protected from shock in those.
not like killer instinct where the drive is in a plastic shock-mount
