Got this kit a while back from hyperneogeo, finally got some time to mess with it..

I love breakout type games, and ghox is one of those rare gems, it's 2 player coop ( AND vertical unlike arkanoid returns ) and full of powerups, bosses, etc.
Ghox make us of special "up/down spinners", which allows for the entire shaft to tilt up/down and rotate.

Problem with spinner #1 ... I new I was getting something that needed repairs, but I didn't expect of the spinners to come as an ikea kit without a manual ;) That spinners came with 2 knobs ( IIRC I'd given them to hyperneogeo while he was messing with it ). Neither of the knobs were the right height, but it turns out, a genuine taito spinner knob/shaft fit perfectly. I sacrificed a normal spinner from my pile of spares.

problem with spinner #2 - gear slipped, on closer inspection it was missing the retaining nut, because... it was broken :/

Since I didn't really want to sacrifice ANOTHER good spinner, I just modded the gears by cutting down the part with no cogs. This way the screw suck out far enough to put a nut on :D

I really couldn't find any panel artwork that. It must have been sold solely as kits ?? So I inspired myself from the flyer and whipped up something

vectorizing that ghox lettering was a bitch...

Alberto did my prints, and as usual, they were awesome. Unfortunately someone at work threw the box with the artwork in it on accident ... X( X( .. fast forward months later.... replacements arrived ( along with more projects lol )

Here's an adapter that goes in the blast IO's 8 pin aux connector

Now.. onto some more artwork, this could use custom instruction slip and marquee !

The Egret 29/Canary and other older Taito cabs have over-sized joystick holes, large enough to mount a spinner without removing the knob. Likely explicitly for games like this.

I have some NOS Ghox Spinners in the original box and they simply came with some arrow stickers. I think that's about as much original panel art as they ever had.

This project looks great. I can't wait to get my Ghox setup going. At this point I've got a bunch of Ghox spinners but still no PCB.

eesh, a bit steep. most of the sold listings I've seen in the last year have been between 150-180 before shipping.

That's clever using the aux connector for the spinners. Beautiful panel!

Somewhat related to this, someone on Yahoo Japan was selling original artwork by Hideaki Kodama last year. The original Ghox flyer artwork was also sold. Luckily an image of it is still on Yahoo's servers:

Would've been neat to own.

Other Kodama artwork that was sold can be found in this Lost Levels thread:

How did you handle the M4 studs? I see holes drilled, but it looks flush on top. Did you weld or epoxy the studs, then fill and sanded the top so it looks smooth?
