Those of you with 512MB and 1GB DIMM boards...
Would you mind looking to see the model number of the memory chips you have in your DIMM board and posting it here?

It'd be nice if we could compile a list of compatible DIMMs for upgrade/repair purposes.

I have 4 DIMM boards in my collection, 2 of them are regular dims that have 2 128MB Samsung DIMMs the other two are Net-DIMMs that each have a single 256MB memory DIMM

One of the Net-DIMMs has no model number markings on it but the other has a Samsung M366S3323CT0-C7A DIMM.

According to the very brief blurb on the Arcade Otaku wiki two of these Samsung units can be used to make a 512MB DIMM board.

I'm curious if any other models were used by Sega in the 512MB units, as well as what chips were used in the 1GB models.

It might not hurt if people with old 168-pin DIMM sticks laying around could try them out and report what works/what doesn't.

---------------------
General Specs: 168-pin DIMM PC100 or PC133
DIMM can support 1 stick or 2 matching sticks

Confirmed working:
256MB Sticks
Hynix HY57V28820HCT-H
Infineon HYS64V32300GU-7.5-C2
Samsung M366S3253CTS-C7A
Samsung M366S3323CT0-C75
Samsung M366S3323CT0-C7A
ADTEC (unknown model)

512MB Sticks
A-Tech 6521 AA 5514 L/H445/V
Kingston KVR133X64C2/512
Kingston KVR133X64C3/512

I thought they just used bog standard PC100 or PC133 dimms

technically they do, but I've heard they can be picky. With the amount of issues people tent to have with these DIMM boards I'd rather know what models they originally shipped with and stick to those if possible.

The real questions in my mind are things like Parity, ECC, or Non-ECC and PC100 or PC133 (I know both speeds are said to work but can Naomi take advantage of the faster 133).

This is the information about the Samsung posted above...

Type: DRAM
Technology: SDRAM
Form Factor: DIMM 168-pin
Speed: 133 MHz ( PC133 )
Latency Timings: CL3
Access Time: 7.5 ns
Data Integrity Check: Non-ECC
Features: 4K refresh, unbuffered
Module Configuration: 32 x 64
Voltage: 3.3 V

The initial loading from a CF or Net-Boot setup likely wont change as that's mostly limited to the network speed (presumably 10/100). Beyond that are there any NAOMI games that have load times? I think the most I've seen are are like 2-3 second pauses between screen changes. even if there is a difference I can't imagine it would be noticeable. There's also the question as to whether the buss on the DIMM board even supports up to 133.

I have two of these

Samsung M366S3323CT0-C75 SDRAM 256MB PC 133 Non ECC

got them off ebay.

I've got a huge bag of all sorts of different DIMMs from back when I serviced/built PC's.
I think next weekend I'll give it a proper search, I'm sure I've got some 168-pins in it to test.

Bog standard PC ram - not ECC or Registered - My Net Dimm has 1 * 256M PC133, my non-net dimm has 2*128M PC100 - I'll dig out make/model later this week memory speed makes no difference to loading speeds.....

Just checked my 512mb NetDIMM's, one had 2x Samsung Korea H PC133U-333-542 M366S3323CT0-C7A, one of the sticks had 0129 in the top right corner and the other had 0131.

The other NetDIMM had 2x ADTEC? sticks, pic attached. No labels on the back.

I bought a few SIMMs to test. These 512mb SIMMs work great to upgrade the DIMMs:

I also bought two of these. Converted my other DIMM and work great:

Samsung PC133U 133mhz 256MB RAM M366S3253CTS-C7A

I bought two of the 512mb SIMMs. I didn't try to uograde to 1gb because I wasn't sure what game requires it.

Melty Blood I believe is the only 1024mb game in existence.
I have 3x128mb DIMMs from that same maker, then I've got 1x256mb Samsung DIMM.

I hope that with my 1x256mb Samsung I can make a 512mb DIMM, but I guess it will depend on whats already installed in my DIMM when I get it.

isn't MBAA 512mb.
wasn't the 1Gb for Chihrio and triforce
if MBAA is exactly 512MB then it might fall into the same trap as as a few of the 256MB games where they need the larger DIMM size because there is some extra space reserved by the system such that the game wont fit.

but yeah, technically Chihiro and Triforce are the only systems that normally use more than 256MB (the large odd-ball NAOMI games are all converted carts)

I upgraded my NetDIMM specifically for Melty Blood, it runs perfect with 512MB.
is there anything special you need to do for MBAA? When I tested it on a 512MB setup all I got was a black screen on boot.

I see two versions for download. One says its patched. Maybe you need that one. I haven't tried yet.

hmm I think I already have the patched version. maybe I need the un-pactched one? I got my upgrade RAM over the weekend but I haven't had a chance to give it a full and proper test.

I had been told MBAA needed 1024mb DIMM, I never tested this personally so I can't say for sure.
However like Twisted stated above, I was under the impression it was just slightly over 512mb in size forcing you to use a 1gb DIMM.

Nope, I honestly never knew there was anything special about it. I tried to boot it on my 256MB NetDIMM and it wouldnt boot and I read somewhere it needed 512MB so I upgraded the memory and it booted. I'll try to send you a link to the rom I'm using later today.

I get the same results with the patched one. PM'ing you a link to the non-patched if you need it.
