Hello I have a battery on my CPS3 motherboard. Can I remove it? If yes Can only cut the leg?

i think like you i would like a confirmation from specialist before make some thing

Yes don’t do anything without expert confirmation.

I am not 100% positive, but I think removing that battery won't do any damage.

It's a bit strange really because the lastest versions don't have that battery.

I’ll ask tony what happened to his board and report back.

Quote from @majors

“Personally, I'd remove it just in case it goes bad. Dunno if it saves high scores but the later versions with no battery still save game settings.“

Can we get confirmation from someone on these forums that they've removed the battery with no side effects? I am tempted to go through and check all my motherboards now, I know at least some of mine were originally NG.

@nonosto good to know. out of curiosity:
what is PCB revision, 95682A-2 or something else ? (95682A-1 ?)
does it have populated SRAM chip like at twitter pic from 2nd post ?
does RTC-4553 and x2 ADM202 chips populated ?

also, will be nice to have whole PCB photos, https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/CPS3 have only pics of 95682A-2 PCB with no battery and SRAM.

thanks

for those who might be interested - battery seems does only powering SRAM chip, which is not used by bios or games, probably rudiment from early CPS3 revisions.

more interesting is ADM202 serial drivers and CN3 - I suspect they are part of some kind of "serial packet interface", which was used during game development and testing, and accessible as registers at 5000A00h - 5000A1Fh. some of games (Warzard, Jojo) may enable various debug stuff, or change game flow, based on bits from that area, which probably controlled by some kind of DIP switches from main host.
