Hi all, i'm new here, tried the neo geo forums and yeah it's escape from la over there...

I have an old crt here, handles all my other ntsc consoles well and pal systems, but having problems with my neo geo aes, b/w ,wonky picture ectt. any how i desolder the ntsc jumper and bridged pal 1 and 2 and now have a reasonably good picture , but the colour is faded, wondering if and what type of crystal do i need to swap out to fix the colour, can i just tune the pot near the crystal or does it need to be replaced ?

btw what does pal 1 jumper do opposed to pal 2 jumper?

japan ntsc neo geo aes version 3 mobo .

or Neo-geo.com, I have converted a few Neo geo consoles from Pal to ntsc and it was as simple as either cutting a trace or a blob of solder on a jumper, never had to adjust the crystal.

also are you using scart output, I would imagine composite is more complicated.

no idea on the AES specifically, but it would help if you mention how you have it hooked up, composite, RGB, etc.

On my old Playstation I needed a fancy cable and not just some composite rca plugs into a scart block to turn ntsc games color. On the stock composite to scart cable they came up black and white.

I came from neogeo.com, the website isn't secure and after a week waiting for an email on account activation with no reply, I gave up.

Scart would be rgb and I'm pretty sure pal or ntsc need no apply, colour will look normal, it's a problem with composite output.

I just wounder why some of my ntsc consoles work on my TV but not the aes :( , sega mega drive ntsc does the same thing, b/w image, but ntsc turbo graphics,ntsc neo geo cd, ntsc dream caste all work fine

I have a philips crt t-v nothing fancy, some old t-v i picked up for $15,old t-v's are becoming very hard to find in australia.
i don't recall scart being very popular, i think in the old converting from crt tv to plasma days they started using them here and then faded out.

wouldn't mind rgb modding my t-v but i doubt there's any info on it and it's not worth killing myself over , i'm ok with electronics but still a lot to learn, i don't touch anything to do with high voltage. my basic skills are testing circuits, caps, rectifiers ectt, reasonable soldier skills,basic understanding on how to use an oscilloscope .

t-v,s are not really my thing when it comes ntsc,pal , 50/60 htz.

well it has component inputs (the green/blue/red connection), so your easiest bet would be to get the RGB scart cable I linked to above and then get a RGB to YPbPr adapter, something like this;
https://www.ebay.com/itm/SCART-RGB-...-Adapter-for-vintage-video-game-/273178172012

Total it is gonna cost ya, but the AES is worth it to display its full glory :D

One small note though, there also is some issue with some AES console revisions, more info on that is here;
https://www.retrorgb.com/neogeo.html

There's a CXA1145M inside the AES, so according to the datasheet you need the following for PAL:
- GND on pin #7
- 4.433619MHz crystal (pin #5 and #6)

Mind you, I never modded any AES.

I now have this working in ntsc with correct colour, the mobo needs a look over, i never got it working correctly upon arrival and assume it was ntsc/pal problem, could be a cracked trace/joint or caps need replacement , a little bit of oxide on one of the joypad socket bolts , the bottom case shell is curved and the mobo is slightly curved to , i could only get this running in ntsc mode with the mobo flat on a table and it's a hit and miss.

I fix the bottom side of the case, got the hair dryer out and worked it slowly, should have a reasonably flat mobo now when mounted, it was curved a bit someone must of left it in a hot car or something. I checked all the caps and they are in spec.

I guess I'm basicly done, thanks for the help, I'll still look into that scart to component. I'm interest in building a mvs and cps2 cab so I'll see ya guys around for some help on those.
