finished this about a month ago.

Had a local sheet metal shop trace and laser cut these for me, cold rolled steel was not my choice, but the tracing work was great.

I normally use galvanealed steel, but here , I had to paint it to prevent rust. but on the plus side, that soft steal made it easy to press the studs in :D

the blanks cost me about 50$ each, 70$ for the overlays, and another 70$ in sticks and buttons. so about 250 in materials.

about the candies... those are a buddy's personal arcade, I'll try to snap more pics next time I'm there :D

I guess back in the days, those color patterns were associated with state of the art... like this VAX7000 from circa 1992

lol. great point. ^^ I always find what style and aesthetic influenced arcade cad design to be interesting.

I was curious what this style of art this was called so i did some googling. I know nothing about art. May be someone with less affected memory than me could remember the social and advertisement use of the time.

i couldn't really find out what the art style was specifically called :( for now will call it:

"Memphis movement postmodernism"

From very shallow reading. Memphis movement postmodernism art was a reaction to modernism, some kinda of positive out look on what modernism established and a encouraging outlook for what the future will bring. Where on the other end of postmodernism was "Subversion". A distaste and rejection of modernism, with a bleak interpretation of the establishment.

To your point, I guess at the time this style of art was used by tech adds and tech branding design as a way of conveying
"this tech is from the future. Brought to you today." ?

Think I was pretty young when this was popular, I barley remember it being part of popular culture. I had a cousin who had this art and Fido Dido all over her bedroom. wasn't 7up soda a thing back then too?

now that i think of it my cab might now bw a neo25 it looks identical to the cab here that you show the 1p panel on

Holy smokes !! The end result of all of that work turned out looking fantastic! Absolutely great work! Thanks for sharing them pics of the process! Would be nice to have some repro artwork made for my Neo 29 one day.

I have a Neo Candy 29 with a nice original 2 player panel, but honestly aside from it being cool to have it original I'm not wild about the button spacing. It's my only non-linked cab, fitting another NC29 would be a stretch, but if I did I'd definitely do something like this and make 1 player panels with a more standard Astro City style 4 button arc.
