The battery on my crystal systems motherboard is looking... not great.
Safe to remove?
Any need to replace it, or could I just leave it off like on a PGM?

Safe to remove, yes.

Can't remember offhand what purpose it has (high scores, book keeping?).

Need to get it replaced as well.

The cps2 battery install at an angle has been suggested, ER14250 axial lead

I forget the correct fit one, I think Varta makes it, not sure the quality, there are other brands as well. Let me do some googling.
But yeah, would love to know the 1:1 fit replacement for this.

Do you really need to replace it?
Was hoping it was like PGM where its fine to leave it off.

Im gonna say probably not, most likely its like the pgm system. I will probably try to find a socket/battery combo that fits though just to have the option.

@brizzo might be able to chime in since he's been working on these.

Replacement is a Varta 3/V80H 2 Pin 3.6V or similar type. Not sure if they make lithium ones.

Similar to this one, I removed the one that came with my MB.
