My King of Fighters 2002 has some graphical glitches. I've cleaned the contacts with Deoxit and isopropyl alcohol. The MVS slot is clean as well and plays other games just fine. I'm using an MV-1C with Unibios 4.0. The pcbs are in good shape and I couldn't find any broken traces or missing capacitors. I found one solder point on the CHA board that looked suspect. I reflowed it but it didn't change anything. There are short, horizontal lines of garbage all over the screen. The fix layer graphics are fine, so I'm assuming I probably have a bad C ROM. Any info or advice would be appreciated.

That’s actually a bad CMC most likely. You can try and reflow the pins as sometimes they are loose but if all are soldered down and it still looks like that then you need to replace the CMC.

Thanks so much for the info. I'll try and reflow the pins. If that doesn't work I'll have to see if I can find a donor F10 pcb.

If you have one you can hit the cart contacts with a fiber brush. I've had carts that downright REFUSED to work after IPA cleaning, that magically worked fine after being worked over with a brush.

Thanks for the advice. I'll purchase one and try it out. I'd been meaning to buy one for some other projects.

likely couldn't replace the C-ROM on this anyway since it's 64Mbit... unless someone knows of any 64Mbit DIP-42 EPROM modules available?

nice to know there's an option, but man that's a lot of fine pins to solder :S

Any idea if there's a similar option for the 32Mbit V-ROMs? (since they need to work in 8-bit mode so 27c322s wont work)

I finally got around to fixing this cart. I transfered the mask roms to another F10 pcb and it workds fine now. Even with a desoldering gun, this board was a huge pain in the ass what with the through-holes being plated on both sides.

hi neofan

Can i Ask that i have a Blazing Star That has more complicated graphics issue

Can i do the the same process you done in the kof2002

First what can be a donor board i can transfer all the chips for it to work flawlessly
Second will be compatible if i transfer the chips and no programming required.

Thanks hope to here from you

Have you tried reflowing the C ROM pins on the CHA board? I had a Kabuki Klash with a bunch of pixel garbage on the left side of the screen and reflowing fixed it. It was missing the fix layer graphics as well so I had to replace the S ROM with an EPROM. If one of your C ROMS is bad, transferring the chips to another board isn't going to make a difference. I would post a picture so maybe someone can diagnose the problem for you.
A direct transfer would be a CHA512Y, but there may be other boards that work as well with the right jumpers jumped.

here's the pictures of the Blazing Star

Probably a bad neo 273.

If only some graphics are affected (the intro is bad and the gameplay graphics are good) them it's a high chance of a bad C-rom.

If everything is affected them is a high chance of a bad neo-273.

That at least to my experience.
