I wanted to get these images/information out to my fellow VLX fans...
If you are the owner of an original F/L/FC or L-AMI cab you are already aware the top two speakers/tweeters are square in shape.
You CAN get these exact replacements from Taito, but like everything direct from Taito its far from cheap!
We've (thanks @Derick2k for finding them) known about these Dayton Audio PC83-4 3" Full-Range Poly Cone Drivers for a while now.
They work great as a "drop-in" replacement for the rounded/bottom speakers.
However when it comes to the top two, this round shape is NOT compatible with the speaker box.
Using a Drummel tool and a disc shaped cutting bit I made this change to the speaker box..
Now the round replacement speakers drop right into place (connectors are good to go too, no crimping/soldering needed)!
One final modification is required before we can close this up...
On the left you can see the way the original port/connector looked, on the right you can see I've mounted it backwards (aka backmounting).
With the additional size of the speaker magnet you can't have the plug sit recessed that deep.
By just removing the connector from the plate, turning the entire back panel over and reconnecting it your all set.
Finished speaker boxes reassembled/ready to be reinserted into the VLX.
