Looking for a regular joystick and buttons controller that has a DB15 connector that will plug directly into the DB15 connector of the S-JIHP and work without any mods. Does one exist?
I tried a Microsoft Sidewinder controller that is DB15 and can't get any buttons to work. Basically, I am struggling to get basic "start" button and player controls to function so the gun and steering wheel can function (basically get the game started). Does an X-arcade work directly into the DB15 of the S-JIHP? Neo Geo controller? Any options would be great.
I bought a break-out DB-15 connector from JasenCustom's thinking I could just wire buttons onto it but still no success. Hoping for some thoughts or a direct pinout of the DB15 connectors on the S-JIHP to try and match up with some general controls. I have the IBM sidewinder but can't get it to "start" the game as a start button.
Would an undamned USB to DB15 adapter work with this port? I think I asked that before, but thought I would check. Then any PS3 or Xbox 360 controller would probably work?
Thanks!

The DB15 port is wired for PC joystick. You really need to use the DB25 connector for your stick and button games. If you use a DB15 gamepad you can make an adapter to plug into the DB25 port. Also, if you watch my videos there is a segment where I use undamned's adapter by wiring it to a DB25 breakout pcb.

Does this "15 pin D-sub" version work out of the box?

It was not clear if it was preferable to use this variant or not:

9:30 in you documented the usage of the break out version, I assume there was a gap in the time this was made, and when the encased version came out.

Will they work just the same?

Update: After some more googling, that looks like a negative!
I see "DB25 ports use Walsdawg Standard" on the S-JIHP, and the manual for the Dsub variant is absolutely NOT using that pinout.

Both of the Undamned USB decoder variants will work with S-JIHP. I know for sure I was able to make the DB15 version work with mine - just need to wire it up from the DB25 on the S-JIHP. It gets a little messy with the extra wiring but you can tidy that up with a 25 pin to 15 pin "adapter" cable, which is what I ended up with when I played around with this board.

Oh got it, so just use his "digital jumpers" to fix the pinout.
