Wanted to post this here in case someone can haphazard a guess.
It's a bvm-d20, here are the symptoms:

Monitor works as expected, shows a nice picture and everything, except that every minute or so there's an audible snapping sound coming from the back of the monitor, with a simultaneous twitch of the whole picture.
It works normally for some time, then after a minute this will repeat again.

The snapping sound is audible but not incredibly loud or anything, probably quieter than the snap you hear when degaussing.
The picture sort of twitches similarly as when degaussing although not as pronounced.

Here's a recording of the fault:

Any ideas are very much appreciated.

High voltage? Flyback?

I would open it up and check it visually for any damage or cracks.
Also turn off the lights and see if you can see some sparking or something.

that would be my guess at least

Lol Vaseline works for the anode cap?
apparently!
I had a friend of a friend help, I have no technical background.

bad news is, it's doing the same thing again, but much less frequently, which is why we thought it was fixed.
oh well, I think it can be properly fixed but we'll see.
