What's new
Cleaned and polished the control panel, she looks perdy:

I'm sanding the coin slot back to white/cream (it was yellow) and thanks to Jan, will be getting a black cover and JVS board. Huzzah!

Meanwhile, I have setup a ghetto paint booth in the basement and am sanding and painting the monitor and speaker bezels. They are look good!

OK, cabinet has been stripped, degreased and washed thoroughly.

The upper bezel (between the 2 top speakers) is messed up with scratches so I'm in the middle of painting. Once that is done, I can re-assemble the trim and replace missing screws. Hopefully will have it mostly finished (and playing) by next weekend!

I was cleaning out my cab and found a "Batting Center" card with a phone number on it. 1 google search later and I found where my Vewlix L cabinet came from in Japan: http://am-mir.jp

Sounds like a fun place to visit!

Look what came today:

After hours of sanding and painting I gave up and had them powder coated. They look brand new now and are well protected. Mad props to Seattle Powder Coating.

Monitor and trim re-installed and doing an AV test with the XBOX360:

Next step will be getting the JVS->JVSPAC->PS3 working. Almost there!

Nice! Powdercoat FTW :D

I wish I had a bigger oven. I have been debating whether to strip my cabs and get them powder coated. I might try it with one cab and see how it goes and what they charge me.

I'll be doing that with my Madonna cab when I get to restoring that.

@mattsoft What was the purpose of sanding down those pieces and powder coating them?

My Super Neo 29 has a yellowed bezel and I'm contemplating having that powder coated. Would that be a good idea?

after powder coating, i will not paint again (except for very small pieces). i could never get that smooth, even, blotch-free coat that powder gives you. plus it has the perfect texture and is super durable. you have so many color, texture, and finish options too.

Haha no it is plastic indeed. :D
give it a try and let us know how it turns out. :whistling: hah!

have you tried that peroxide/oxy clean (redrobright) to remove yellowing? i've always been too chicken to try it...

No because Ive heard it will eventually yellow again.

A good paintjob would look much better I think

the coin slot on my vewlix was yellowed and i just lightly sanded it with 1600 grit and it took the yellow right off. then i polished it with novus and it looks new. might work on the bezel?

What novus did you use? Arent there like 5 steps or something?

You can do powder coat on plastic if you use low temp powder and UV curing lamps instead of an oven. There is a little more prep involved but the results are spectacular.

1st i wet sanded with 1600 grit sandpaper... made sure that the surface was wet and the paper was wet ALWAYS. gently sanded the yellow out. then used the novus 2 "fine scratch remover" to polish it. came out great and looks brand new. probably be a lot of work for an entire bezel, but might work well.

yeah, maybe call some local powder coaters and see if they can do plastic. the process is different, but would probably look amazing. i can just never get spray paint to look on large pieces.
