What about Golden Axe: The Duel on STV?
Sure it's a Golden Axe game, just as Final Fight Revenge is a Final Fight game.
I think we can both agree they suck pretty hard however, and are nothing like the previous entries (both beat'em ups) in the series.

Mortal Kombat everything after 4 (tons of consoles/handhelds)
I don't recognize 4, they didn't move the series in the direction that it should have gone (2D with more gameplay depth), instead pushing it to where they thought the industry was going (gimmicy 3D and weapons) while gameplay took a dump, however MK9 and MKX are both phenomenal games and every bit as good (and arguably much better in some respects) as the original trilogy.

There are some rom board variants, one uses 27C160 for gfx/sprite data, the other i have not seen/used (possibly 27C040x4?)

The one you want, has BIG roms. YOU NEED THIS

This is a picture of the one you don't want at this time. NOT NEED THIS

For those other boards, the data is split differently. A set could be made to run on those boards, deducting the rom format from mame.
edit: just gonna try it and see what happens

Finally found a system32 base board so now I'm scouting for a suitable rom board.

I see a number of options boards out there, and I'm avoiding the ones with the smaller rom chips. Still, some have large chips but they don't have the sub-board on top. You mention in the 1st post that you don't need the security board (I think that's what this is) but in the zipfile I see epr-14468-02.u3, which I think goes on that sub-board. Is that required? Not that I'd convert a segasonic, but it's an example of a system32 rom board that doesn't have a sub-board.

Just wanted to throw a thank you your way. Purchased a suicided board and am excited to bring it back to life.

Such an awesome thing to be able to see games like this that goes for such crazy prices on the net nowadays finally possible to play given you can find the hardware to run it.
Excellent work on all the reverse engineering and making miracles happen

I need some free to time to finish Dark Edge, these holidays suck the life out of me:)

When I'm back to work next week it should be possible to dedicate some time to finishing up Dark Edge.
