What's new
The CPS2 multi could probably be adapted to this fairly easily.

Well on first test, one rom was bad, reburned one and all is good ! son and I are having a blast with Maximum hangtime! thanks guys!

I'm sorry to bring this up again, but what type of programmer did you use to burn your roms? I have a TL866 MiniPro and I just couldn't figure out what type of IC type should I select. Any help please?

Download just the mame rom for that location, use a file size chart, and count the pins, to see if a suitable replacement can be made.

i was wondering on the tests where people have added the 32.768KHz crystal and the MK41T56N, have they replaced the u57 gal chip to match the game. given the proximity of the u57 to the MK41T56N. the u57 gal may be the logic to make use of the MK41T56N and the crystal when switching from games like mk3 to nba hangtime. also it appears the u57 gal is game specific. so it may matter that the gal match the game exactly to prevent errors (specifically the cmos errors seen in one of the earlier posts). I am just guessing and havent tested but was looking at my wolf board

I haven't replaced the GAL chip during my hangtime conversion. I guess U57 is sound section related because I once replaced it during a repair that the sound section was not working.

Regarding UMK3 to XXX conversion, only the UMK3=>MK3 conversion worked for me. UMK3=> Hangtime, I suffered CMOs erros and periodic game hangs/resets. So I converted it back to UMK3 and sold the PCB as it is :)

ok wanted to include the correct GAL chips here:

open ice u57 A-20255 (no MK41T56N)
IMG_0913a.jpg

mk3/mk3u u57 A-20093 (no MK41T56N)
IMG_0911.JPG

Rampage u57 A-20255 (no MK41T56N)
IMG_0920.JPG

does anyone know the GAL chips for the other games?

as for which games use which EPROMS and the GAL:

4-rows (16x 8Mb graphics roms):

2on2 open Ice Challenge: u118-u133 u57 A-20255 (no MK41T56N)
Rampage World Tour: u118-u133 u57 A-20255 (no MK41T56N)
WWF Wrestlemania: u118-u133 ?

5-rows (16x 8Mb graphics roms + 4x 4Mb or 8Mb graphics roms):

Mortal Kombat 3: u114-u117 (4Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb) u57 A-20093 (no MK41T56N)
NBA Hangtime: u110-u113 (8Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb) ?
NBA Maximum Hangtime: u110-u113 (8Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb) ?
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3: u110-u113 (8Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb) u57 A-20093 (no MK41T56N)

I solved the mystery of the 'CMOS CHIP U49 BAD' error encountered with conversions to NBA Hangtime and Open Ice...

Firstly, U49 is NOT the CMOS RAM - it's the work RAM (a 4Mb DRAM). The CMOS RAM is actually the 28 pin SOIC at U62. My UMK3s have an LH5268AN-10LL fitted, which is an 8Kx8 SRAM. Open Ice and NBA Hangtime have an LH52B256N-10LL, which is 32Kx8. See the problem? ;)

In order to get my UMK3 to Open Ice conversion working, I had to do the following:

1. Remove U62 and install an LH52B256N-10LL.
2. Remove the 4.7K resistor at R138.
3. Add a zero ohm link at R644.

Now it works great, with no CMOS errors! (Hopefully)

Is this the more desireable 4-row Wolf Unit, or is it the 5-row Wolf Unit?

well, it's using 5 rows of EPROMS so...

based on the ROM configuration it's one of these 3:
NBA Hangtime: u110-u113 (8Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb)
NBA Maximum Hangtime: u110-u113 (8Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb)
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3: u110-u113 (8Mb), u118-u133 (8Mb)

From the blurry writing on the main CPU code labels it looks like NBA Hangtime

Pretty sure someone above wrote about converting a 4 row game to 5 row, would the reverse work?

Thanks, I wasn't sure. Orientation thing (landscape vs. portrait) + wishful thinking.

That one is NBA Hangtime. I got 6 of these boards. Only need one for a UMK3 conversion. One seems to fully work. The only other one that boots has a RAM error. All the other ones have EPROM's and stuff pulled. Time to start testing the other boards.

honestly the whole 4-row/5-row thing isn't valid, I wrote that based on information in the MAME driver but if you read through the posts on this thread reality is different than what's in MAME. There is a chip at U55 that is used for some games and the posts just above yours show some CMOS differences as well..

I think we still don't know 100% all of the relevant differences in this hardware.

we can figure this out. some great pics have been posted of MK3, WWF, and NBA boards, but we still need some high res/clear enough to read the chip label pics of 2 on 2 open ice and rampage world tour.

Still bringing myself up to speed on this stuff.

4 of 6 of my Wolf Units have all the EPROM's pulled. Some EPROM stickers were left behind though and one of them said Rampage World Tour. I can take pics of it. It does look different from the other boards too, very slightly different.

I have an RWT, what do you want photos of?

Strike that. Not sure if that RWT EPROM sticker stuck to my unpopluated board means anything. Reason being is that U45 in just about all of them says MKIII.

On 4-of-6 boards, U55 is unpopulated. But 2-of-6 have this:
U55.JPG

And here is U62 on those boards that have an IC populated at U55:

My Wolf Units look to be converted all over the place. Not sure if it is factory or not. One has game labels from 3 different games on different components.

Easy. I'll pull it out of the cupboard and give it a look soon
