A few years ago I picked up a weathered VA0 Saturn that didn't read discs and I wanted to clean it up. I found that several SMD caps had leaked fluid on the PCB, so I performed a full recap as well. I replaced the SMDs with long-life/high-voltage/low ESR/105C rated electrolytics. There is a large metal panel that sits just above the motherboard, so I had to position them exactly in order for it to fit back together.
After recapping, it read discs again. I usually have to tweak the laser on units that don't read CDs, but not this one. Its AV quality is now perfect too.
