I believe this feature was proposed when the cart was being designed.
If memory serves me correctly, the majority of users felt having a battery directly on the PCB that could potentially leak was too great a risk/concern.

In today's arcade preservationist landscape, you see more people moving towards solutions that allow for the removal of batteries.
