Does anyone know what the device that stores the keys was designed to have as maximum writes? I'm a bit concerned that it may not have been designed to be able to write keys to so often and wondering if constantly writing keys switching games can shorten the life of whatever storage it uses.

Just curious, I didn't find any mention of it in ArcadeHacker's blog but I didn't look too well either. Anyone have an idea?

Hello SwaggaJackin,

You are correct that ArcadeHacker has not posted many details about CPS2 yet, hope he will one day... But you will also find my name in the credit scroll for helping collaborate with the team and solve a few pieces!

The key is stored in SRAM located within one of the custom chips, which the battery is used to power, so it then retains the key as long as battery is good. SRAM does not have endurance limits with write cycles.

TLDR: Writing keys will not wear out the memory used to store key
