I have definitely found fresh solder to be a god send for revitalising troublesome areas. I’m still not 100% with my desoldering gun, but definitely feel like I’m improving as time goes on. One of the best investments I made.
Never got the hang of desoldering braid and ended up using a bunch of it. I do keep it around for cleaning things up though.
