Some great projects here, I`d like to share mine also.

Spent most of 2017 on my second cab, last one was a weecade looking bartop with a tron theme in 2012.

I decided to push my own limits this time with my own unique design and to try and incorporate some different materials and methods into the build.

I`d seen some perspex signs somewhere where the perspex was lit from the edge and any engraving really stood out. I had to have this somewhere in the build.

I wanted it to be see through so you could see all the workings, mostly for cool factor but also to push me to really do some tidy wiring on the inside with all custom cables and sleeving, all made by myself.

As i knew it would take over 12 months cost wasn't an issue and i`d spend whatever it took to build the best i`d ever built. It cost nearly £2000 to complete but well worth it in my opinion.

This is the finished piece below, i`ll do my best to explain the build.

So i started with a rough sketch shown below.

And proceeded to purchase some 18mm ply

I kerfed the two sides and completed the bottom section

I now had the basic shape that i`d invisioned and was happy that all my components would fit ( or so i thought)!!

I`d chosen a dell monitor 26 inch widescreen that i knew would remember its power off state!!

This is a roughly put together with monitor and speakers in

I`ll carry on with this thread tomorrow, on nights tonight..

Don`t know if this link will work but here are all the pictures.

That's pretty damned cool.

IMGBB asks for sign-in unfortunately.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll get back on this build log soon.

Werejag it's 25 inch high and 25.5 inch wide 19.5 deep

Awesome stuff! I look forward to seeing the rest of the build photos

The CNC lust is rising! 8o What machine do you have?

Thanks for the replys Guys..

So..

I decided from the start that i wanted it see through with loads of leds,

This is the motherboard tray made from Mirror Perspex, with 6 leds in, the motherboard is raised up which reflects back into the perspex which i was hoping you`d see from outside the case.

All Parts were then filled and sanded then primed with high build primer, and again sanded with wet and dry.

I decided to try something different than paint, mainly because i can never get the finished i want, and it takes so long between coats. I used Car Wrap vinyl which is pretty cheap when bought in small quantity.

White for the base and orange for sides. It was quick and gave a perfect finished,

I planned on no T moulding build to wrap two sides you needs somewhere to hid the edge of the wrap and the T moulding grove worked well, 12mm T moulding in 18mm ply with rounded edges.

This is the top piece that has two groves in its end to take the perspex from the control panel and rear panel, 5 leds in each groove to shine trough the perspex edge.

That bartop is really awesome, like amazing attention to detail in the build pieces.

I can't help but feel a key part was left out however, something that is making it miss the mark...
Let's start by taking a look at this Hori Vewlix stick as an example so you can easily see what I mean.

What do you notice about this stick right away?
What makes it look like a real Vewlix control panel (aside from the colors used)?

Two iconic things IMO...
  • First are the angled side pieces (in this case dark blue to match the Diamond's color scheme).
  • Second the equally angled front (silver to match Diamond) lip, when combine with the side pieces it completes/matches the angles perfectly.
We see these angled pieces repeated in the Matcatz TE stick...

And again here in the Kraylix...

I think these pieces could be incorporated into your bartop for a more authentic Vewlix look.
Sure that bartop is awesome as is right now, but does it strike me as a "Vewlix" bartop?
No, really all it has in common with a *lix right now is that curved/rounded top piece.

yeah that's the only resemblance I see also. I never set out for a viewlix type cab just inspired by the shape abit..
A scaled down viewlix cab would look cool

Beautiful build.

The sticks sit too high though.

to high if played from a dining room table. But it lives on a coffee table which is low down in the living room so feels pretty good to play..
