I picked up a cheap 2040u CRT monitor the other day and it "works" but has an issue where periodically it will make a "snap" sound and the picture will zoom in and back out then return to normal. Sometimes this affects brightness temporarily as well.

It seems like a possible issue somewhere with the high voltage. My first plan of action is to remove the case and use compressed air to clean out any debris/dust. If that doesn't do the trick I'm thinking I will discharge the tube and clean out the anode cup and area where it connects to the tube.

Anyone have experience with anything similar? Is it possible the flyback is going out?

Any advice is much appreciated! I'll see about creating a youtube video of the issue soon.

It's really a great monitor and has excellent PQ when working normally, so definitely worth saving.
