What's new
Many thanks for the reply @andynumbers

I was suspecting it might be too slow 27C160 but they all are labelled as 100ns which should be fast enough.
Have no idea of the source for the ones that were used as just re-used what was already used in the Puzzle Bobble 4 conversion.

Think I only have a couple of 27C160 in my spares box at the moment, so would be good to try to narrow down which 160's it could be.
Surely background tiles?

Awesome it is all sorted now.

Appears it was a problem with the M27C160 in position 45.
That EPROM's Data appears to be okay still but it is definitely faulty.

I want to convert my PB2 to EA2, how I do it?
Not sure on the policy regarding giving out that information here.
I just checked out the Taito_F3.cpp from Mame to find out where I needed to position EPROMS and you need a PB2 that has a D77_15 at IC21 that can correctly read 27C4001.
Apart from that try to keep everything at 100ns or faster and should be good.

The whole reason this website exists is to share information on how to convert boards. The other forums (KLOV, shmups, neo-geo, etc) are the ones that have such silly policies.

@Raph_friend : Nothing special is needed to do the conversion. The MAME ROMset for EA2 has the ROM files labeled with the IC positions they go on the board. Burn the MAME ROMset with the appropriate ROM chips and install on your board. 2MB ROM images = 27c160, 512KB = 27c040, 256KB = 27c020

You may have to change the PAL at IC21 to D77-15 if you have a D77-14 installed. This is documented on jammaarcade.net

If this is your first F3 conversion be careful desoldering the old chips--the solder pads are fragile on F3 boards, and are double sided. Some of the pins attached to large ground planes can be difficult to desolder.

The pals can be burned, right?

I don't need to solder any jumper (s)?

I already sent @Raph_friend a PM with the details but really apart from the IC21 DD77-14 required for 27c2001 (0x40000) PROM's and DD77-15 required for 27c4001 (0x80000) PROM's, there really isn't much to Taito F3 conversions and all the information you need is easily found within the Mame Taito_F3.cpp which you can easily read online here.

For Elevator Action Returns:

IC04 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-01.4
IC08 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-02.8
IC12 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-03.12
IC17 - 27C4001 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-16.17
IC18 - 27C4001 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-10.18
IC19 - 27C4001 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-11.19
IC20 - 27C4001 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-12.20
IC21 - D77-15 (PAL/GAL)
IC32 - 27C2001 (120ns) Mame ROM : e02-13.32
IC33 - 27C2001 (120ns) Mame ROM : e02-14.33
IC38 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-04.38
IC39 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-05.39
IC43 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-06.43
IC45 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-07.45
IC47 - 27C160 (100ns) Mame ROM : e02-08.47

Use elvactr.zip from the latest Mame set.

I haven't seen a PAL to GAL conversion online for D77-15 but there is probably one out there.

Also there are no jumpers at all to worry about.

Created a label for my Elevator Action Returns Conversion and got a local print shop to print them off.
Unfortunately had no option for curved corners so had to try to cut them myself with a craft knife and scissors which hasn't resulted in the best job but I guess they are good enough.

Have a few spare because of minimum paper use being way too big for my needs.

EDIT: Including a JPG image for the label I created. Also can provide it in easily editable PDN and PSD formats if anyone cares.
