Outrun 2 SP IP Protocol

Has anyone ever looked at the protocol for linking multiple Outrun 2 SP cabinets together for head to head racing?
I'm wondering if its worth wiresharking the data and making a proxy that would allow owners worldwide to race against each other?

Anyone ever ventured down this path before?
I only have a single cabinet so capturing the data will be problematic.
