I've spent a lot of time trying to reproduce the security chip located on the romboard in order to be able to design a completely new one.I've been able to reproduce the banking mechanism but for some reason some other needed signals never worked... I guess if this Altera chip was ever dumped I could merge my designs and make a "all-in-one" board (romboard + floppy controller + analog I/O board).
But then final price would be probably close to $300.

Let's say the actual design of the kit is V1, there might be a V2, maybe not.
      Aaaaaaaand successfully reversed!
Now I can design my own romboard or even revive games with a dead or missing security chip.

Any chance you could design a combo ROM board, Floppy Board, and multi board all in one to help streamline the PCB stack? maybe even with a big empty spot that the floppy emulator can bolt to.

That's the idea: floppy controller + romboard + I/O board combo.
Would be really neat but certainly not cheap.
@Mitsurugi-w what do you think about assembling this monster board? Maybe we could find angled connectors so that the floppy emulator can be plugged (and even bolted?) to the board?

    • I've tested the reversed security chip with all romboard based games without any problem.

In the future we will propose a custom romboard in the kit as an option (instead of the PCB that fits in the OG romboard) for those who have a floppy based game.
      Bonanza Bros anyone? :D

The custom romboard could be bought separately with a discount for those who already bought a kit.

    • I'm routing the custom romboard right now.
      Key features:
      - no need for an original donor romboard to use with the kit anymore
      - solderless and jumperless installation
      - supports all rom based games
      - add support for Bonanza Bros for those who only had a floppy controller

So from now all you need is a working S24 motherboard as analog I/O board, floppy controller and romboard have all been reproduced.

      Various options will be available:
      - full kit : loader selector PCB (plugs in the motherboard) + romboard PCB (plugs in the original romboard) or custom romboard + floppy drive emulator with USB stick (no game included) + floppy controller repro + analog I/O board repro
      - base kit : loader selector PCB (plugs in the motherboard) + romboard PCB (plugs in the original romboard) or custom romboard + floppy drive emulator with USB stick (no game included)
      - floppy controller repro as an option for the base kit
      - analog I/O board as an option for the base kit (required to be able to boot and play Hot Rod and Rough Racer)
      - custom romboard repro as an upgrade for those already having bought the kit (discounted)

    • I've added support for the ROM version of Dynamic Country Club on the romboard.
This game was already supported on the floppy emulator but I thought it would be nice for people who don't have the floppy controller or just want to cut loading times.

@SmokeMonster will probably release a new rompack soon.

Files to be updated from the previous release are ROM 1 (27C160 or 27C322 by using the doubled file), ROM 5 (27C322), ROM 6 (27C322) and the GAL (GAL16V8).

      This changes slightly dipswitch settings:
      - 000 = Dynamic Country Club (ROM version)
      - 111 = All floppy based games except Hot Rod (this setting was already safe to use anyway with the previous releases)

Hi Apocalypse, I am kind of lost with the terminology you use ! analog IO and custom rom board): My donor PCB is a crackdown sys24 !with floppy controller board): I bought the base kit (floppy emulator): Why do I need to buy next to run rom based games? thank you
      Hi,
      You either need:
      - an original romboard so you can plug the ROM PCB from the kit in it
      - the custom romboard that will be available soon

The analog I/O board is specific to boot and play Hot Rod and Rough Racer. Yes S24 is a mess.

    • OK guys, since my Gain Ground is dead for now, I grabbed a Quiz game (working) to test before I drop in the multi.

So, working Quiz game, to HAS, to OSSC. I get a sync lock on the OSSC, but get nothing on my TV.

Any thoughts to what settings I should use?

I'm eager to play some Crack Down eventually...! :)

By the way, the OSSC screen shows:

      423p
      24.39kHz
      57.66Hz
    • Sorry I can't help you here. I have close to 0 experience with OSSC. I use a cheap GBS8200 converter, does the job ok but firmware is full of bugs and the thing gets extremely hot after 30mn or so.
