Ok, so I have a MSHVSF that seems to be dead and a good candidate for the darksoft mod. That being said, what steps to I need to take to get one done? Sorry for my noobness but I work best with clear instructions and answers, e.g

1:Do this
2:do that
3:etc, etc, etc.

Dead as in suicided or dead as in faulty / not working?

All I can get is a Blue screen on boot up. I checked the battery but it seems to be ok at 3.6v. All my other B boards work fine on the A board. It’s only this one that does this. If there is something wrong with the B board itself I can use another one that’s confirmed working.

Welcome! Here's your CPS2 Multi steps:

1) Purchase a known-working CPS2 A and B board.

2) Purchase a Micro SD card. Any size 4GB or higher is fine. SanDisk or Samsung recommended.

3) Purchase a CPS2 Multi kit from one of these sites:
https://paradisearcadeshop.com/en/home/electrical/multi-pcbs/1616_darksoft-cps2-multi-kit
http://www.saveyourgames.it/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=54

4) Prepare your CPS2 B board and install the Multi and key writing wires by following these instructions. Note that careful soldering is required:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/hpgh307otl2bb5o/Instructions_CPS2_Multi_Boot_v3.1.pdf

5) Download the latest Smokemonster game pack from the thread here. With the key writing wires installed, you'll want the New Pack:
CPS2 Roll-Up Packs: All roms for the CPS2 kit

6) Format your SD card as FAT32, extract the game pack to the SD card and then install the card into the SD card socket on the Multi.

7) Press your A Board and B Board together firmly. Connect the JAMMA harness up to your cabinet or SuperGun.

8 ) Power up, adjust power supply voltage to 5 volts, and enjoy the games.

If you have problems getting your Multi to boot, consult the troubleshooting section here:
The Definitive Guide to Fixing Your CPS2 Multi Kit

Also feel free to post in the CPS 2 Multi section of the forum if you have any questions - plenty of folks here are happy to help.

If the fan on your A Board sounds like a jet engine, you can replace it with a much quieter one. Consult this thread for details:
CPS2 Fan Replacement

You can purchase a nice holder for the LCD Display from here:

Since your current board is showing a blue screen at powerup, but reads 3.6V on the battery, it's likely that the onboard battery died at some point, causing the decryption keys to be lost. The battery could have been replaced with a fresh one, but the decryption keys were never reprogrammed into the board to make the game work again.

It'll probably work for the CPS 2 Multi, but starting with a known working board is strongly recommended.

I would recommend installing decrypted ROMs for MvSF and confirming that the board is fine but suicided if you can

MvSF should already have jumpers set correctly, will have a G PAL and is probably a rev 7 board so it will have the CN9 header

Nice easy install :)
could be 6 or 7...mine is 6 and was prepared for multi when i buy that :saint: ... the cn9 header is a bless.
