Yo all

Last year I've acquired a strange Neo aes

It comes with an armored mobo, works with 5v psu, and strange things it is mentioned 4.1
Also it got an smd bios, like Neo CD one

No serial, or silver etiquette on the back

Talking with friend, it may be a test console, proto one (?)

Do you know more, to understand what that's really?

Thanks

Photos (taken as I could coz' it's difficult to see inside of the beast, and I had a quick launch time to take these)

I will take more opinions, and I think I'll open the beast

Anyway, the DS multi run smoother on it 8)

I can't see any of the photos.

Running on 5V isn't strange, quite normal in fact. There were a few different revisions with differing power requirements.

Bios looks soldered to me.
Design is very late in the life but not as integrated as the mini 1 slot. I've never seen one like this. Any label at all on the bottom? Where did you find this unit?

If from France makes sense as it is a large territory with possibilities for many sales. A unit would have to be CE approved and there are some other inspections for France I forget the name of the approval agencies.

I bought it over YAJ like 1 year ago
No silver etiquette or Serial number at the bottom

To note, grey color on the bottom of the plastic shell, and the 2 thin layer of transparent plastic where the mobo rest

ps :
by removing the cm, I found a hair plated on the plastic

I've dumped the 4.1 bios, thanks to DS multi's AES (without the need of
unsolder the chip), after checked it with a MAME team member (@MetalliC), it's a
classic AES jap bios

Source Code

ROM_START( aes )
ROM_SYSTEM_BIOS( 1, "japan", "Japan AES" )
ROM_LOAD16_WORD_SWAP_BIOS( 1, "neo-po.bin", 0x00000, 0x020000,
CRC(16d0c132) SHA1(4e4a440cae46f3889d20234aebd7f8d5f522e22c) ) // AES
Console (Japan) Bios

It IS 10v not 5v. There is a LM2576 mounted on the board which is a buck converter to down the voltage from 10v to 5v.

It is supposed to use PRO-POW3. Also, would make absolutely no sense a new revision go back to the old PRO-POW PSU at that point. (Late 1993)

It should work like a later AES which takes PRO-POW3 PSU. I happen to own one of such, and I use it with a Mega Drive PSU. I don't have a earlier PRO-POW (5v) PSU to test it with, I suppose mine would work with a 5V PSU too (like the one you have does).

If you want to, try check with a ohm meter if the + pin of the power input plug actually connects to the +5v inside the console (it should not).
