Just thought I'd show some pics/info on my approach to creating an Xbox 360 to JAMMA adapter.

Main components used:
1x Ultracade UVC Video Converter Board
1x PB.JAMMA Project Adapter Board - https://www.focusattack.com/pb-jamma-project-adapter-board/
2x Brook Universal Fighting Boards - http://www.brookaccessory.com/detail/06960737/
1x Hammond 1591ESBK ABS Project Box Black - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002BSRIO - shout out to @Lemony Vengeance for the recommendation!
4x 20 pin 2x10 male right angle headers - https://www.focusattack.com/20-pin-2x10-male-right-angle-header-2-pack/
2x 6" 20 pin ribbon cables - https://www.focusattack.com/6-inch-flat-ribbon-floppy-pvc-drive-cable-with-20-pin-2x10-header/
2x Neutrik NAUSB-W A/B USB Panel Mount Ports - https://www.focusattack.com/neutrik-nausb-w-a-b-usb-feed-through-silver/
2x 20cm Type B Male to Type B Male USB Cables
1x 6" VGA Male/Male Cable
1x Switchcraft EHHD15FF 15-Pin HD D-sub Connector Female to Female
2x 12" USB 3.0 A to A Male Cable
1x Right Angle CPS2 kick header - https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/hirose-electric-co-ltd/DF1BZ-34DP-2.5DS/H11039-ND/1033169
Various 2.54mm Molex Connectors/Headers for kick, power, video on PB JAMMA board (though I should have used 2.50mm!)

If you can get a hold of a UVC board for this purpose, it really kicks ass at downscaling 31khz to 15khz video.

For my purposes I didn't include audio support in the Xbox360 to JAMMA adapter since my cabinets support stereo RCA cables and I just feed that from the Xbox 360 VGA cable.

It's a bit rough around the edges, but it works great! As you can see in the first picture I cut the kick mount port a bit wide.

Really nice build! I haven’t done the research so forgive me if it’s an obvious q... why run it at 15khz when you have a Blast?

I’m literally looking at half those parts in my parts bin right now. Unused UVC. Extra UFBs. I should totally make this.

Thanks! I mostly use it for Xbox 360 shmups and I find they look WAY better in 15khz through the UVC than direct via 31khz. The original Cave CV1000 boards output in 15khz and the UVC conversion back down closely mimics the original video output / resolution from those games. Plus I can use this with other monitors/cabs that are 15khz only, so it can move between cabs/PVMs.

One other plus is with this combo I can hook up any console that supports VGA output and is recognized by the UFBs (Xbox One / Xbox 360 / PS4 / PS3 / PC / etc). Stuff without VGA output should work via an HDMI to VGA converter, but I haven't tested that out as my use case is mostly the Xbox 360.

If you've got those parts already (namely the UVC and UFBs), I highly recommend making one!

Cool, good to know the 15khz looks better. And great point on the other sources.

So yep. Sounds like a plan. Added this to my project list!

I am definitely going to look into building one of these.

I have a similar box for multi consoles on the way from @Lemony Vengeance which has a harness to connect the UVC, but he said the 480i direct out the 360 isn’t bad. Will post up pics when I get it.

Cool, I was looking to do something similar for my NNC. I was given a 360 so I figure why not. I was hoping for a cheaper solution for control the a Brooks UFB. Will the collection costing around 500 I guess that is a mute point. This does give me other ideas tho.

@XeD try pick up some of the original PS360 boards from akishop on eBay/forums, that’s what I currently use and they’re fine and cheap when found.

@djsheep Thank you. I knew there was an older board out there. I just couldn't remember the name

it's not BAD... it's just not the best. getting proper downscalers can be PRICY and difficult to find.

Will be keen to see how it performs in any case. I'll be using your box adjacent to my UVC (vertical) on my horizontal cab for shmups. Will be good to do a side-by-side of the two. Looking forward to it!

Man, I don't know how the heck you pulled that off. I got boards with 2.54mm spacing, couldn't make them fit to save my life. Must be more flexibility with the right angle headers.

Man, wish I knew Fritzing. I would draw up a daughter board that could solder onto the PB.JAMMA to take care of console to JAMMA needs.

Yeah maybe so regarding the right angle headers. The first ten pins or so lined up OK, pins ~11-17 required nudging into place with a small flat head.

Would be cool to see a PB.JAMMA revision with CPS2 kick header support integrated and a 4 pin molex for power.

There's actually a version of the PB.JAMMA we were working on to act as a pass through for blue Elf boards that would fix the chinese wiring requirements, a-la JNX's atlas adapters. It wasn't as feature rich, as we were aiming for low-price. It had a CPS2 header on it. it was canceled unfortunately.

I've got something worked up on my brain that would make this console adapting much easier.

...wanna bang this one out for me with your newfound pcb-layout skillz? 2.54mm for the cps2 kick, but 2.50mm for the jst?

Considering it's just some through holes and traces, I'm seriously considering doing exactly that @twistedsymphony. Still thought maybe @acblunden2 might want to flex his newfound muscle a little bit...
