Thought I'd give this thread a bit of an update..
I pretty much knew I was going to change the artwork to Marvel so I hit sellsells2000 for some Mvc2 art and once I got it, like the sf2 one, I felt a little underwhelmed with its brightness
I was thinking it would look like this, but this is directly backlit - not underlit on the cab..
I soon realised that the original marquee is very different fro my clone cab.
My clone cab has no "white backing" to help with the reflecting back of light.
I placed some paper on the back of the marquee and it somewhat worked a little but still not what I had hoped/anticipated
I managed to find an original marquee for sale in Japan and purchased it immediately (luck as these don't come up too often).
Can confirm that the original has got a white reflective surface at the back
I'm between the perspex and the back white sheet has some sort of Ebola virus looking spots which I can only assume acts as some sort of "light spreader" so depending on the artwork, it can look like it's backlit with a fluro (eg blast city)
It might depend on the angle but you can clearly see the difference in the original marquee vs my clone cab..
The Naomi running the game the art is based on - i want take them for a ride!!
Next up, was the control panel of the clone cab - it needed to be fixed as I couldn't fit any Sega cp on it - yaton to the rescue!
Had to purchase NUC hinges and tangs from videotroniks to allow me to use the normal way of locking the cp - I couldn't use what it was
Had a cp panel made up from a local guy - nowhere near original level but it's usable, so I painted it and gave a test fit..
I'm not sure what happened here as the cad files from franco's were used for die cutting but the holes were quite off!
Asked the printer to no longer die cut the holes and that fixed the cp quite well.
After all the effort of restoring the Naomi Universal and getting the clone into a usable state, I'm quite happy with how it's all tuned out!
240p cave on the 360 is the best I can do as I'm not prepared to spend on an original cave game!
