What's new
Googling the model number on the PCB (HH-3978-1) shows that it’s a Wei-Ya and Highway Entertainment has em in stock?

Well the good news is Jomac said to send over the chassis and he'll have a look over and hopefully get it to a working state!

Fingers crossed!

Last night, I decided to do some cable management on the Piforce-Web setup...

Here's the final product

Granted I cheated a bit with using the space on the risers, I still think she looks good! :)

Used an old micro usb cable that I stripped, crimped some terminals on a JST connector to plug direct to CN12 of the Naomi board (pin 1 is 5v and pin 4 is gnd).

This way, when the system turns on, the pi turns on.

Nice restore, looking super fresh!

What Pi model did you go with? I find trying to power my 3B from the naomi it never works properly, i figured it was an ampage issue, but yours seems fine? weird! lol.

And... The restoration has taken another dive! :( ...........There was an electrical smell that was very present in the air..

Absolutely cannot fault Jomac!

The chassis was sent on Thursday, he received it around midday, worked on it, replaced the flyback and did a service on the chassis, sent it off that evening!

I received the chassis back late this afternoon and the results are very good!! :)

Joey sent the flyback back to show where it exploded

I decided to install the monitor with the sega frame...

Silly me made a lot of assumptions.. The chassis had nowhere near the amount of clearance required. Since I still wanted the sega frame, I just grabbed some spare chipboard and used it to mount the chassis :)

So after triple checking the wiring... It was finally time to give her a test!

Voila!

She's alive and actually looks better than what it did.

I'm so glad that Jomac was able to fix this 31khz chassis, yes it's a weiya Chinese chassis but I'm ok with that.

Really not looking forward to the day Jomac retires as he will leave a massive void in the arcade community here in Australia. Hopefully he has an apprentice or something :)

I decided to put the back, bezel and cp all together just for the hell of it... The cab is really looking very close to completion!

Here's a few closer shots of the Naomi

Lastly, the speak grills have been painted satin black, but didn't realise I haven't got a glue gun, so I won't be able to fit it back to the bezel until I get a glue gun.

The decision for a marquee is proving to be a difficult one... 90% of the game played on this cab will be MVC2, so it only makes sense to get a MVC2 marquee, but at the same time, one of the biggest reasons I wanted the marquee of this cab is for the blast city style topper... Decisions, decisions decisions!

Funny how the knock off kept the sound amp transformer that wasn’t present in my UK model. It looks like the sound amp transformer even connects directly to the step down transformer, too.

Dp, but I’ll go on topic. I wonder myself which marquee to use, as well. I like Street Fighter Alpha 3, so I may go with one based on Upper.

Oh Nah... That's from the original cab.

The only thing I grabbed from the knock off cab was the 31khz tube, chassis, monitor bezel and marquee.

Everything else is from the original cab... Step down transformer, sound amp, sound amp transformer, wiring (except for the cp, which I made), jvs i/o - had to change the board since it had building caps and player 2 start didn't get recognised.

All of the European Naomi stepdowns I've seen are dual-output, putting out both 100VAC and 17VAC. Are you sure yours isn't like this?

The sound amp transformer in the above pic is an original Japanese one. Input for it is 100VAC, so naturally it will connect to the step down transformer.

Mine did not include a sound amp transformer. The step down transformer connected straight to the sound amp. My understanding is the 100VAC went to the conn board then to PSU, and the 17VAC went straight to the sound amp. I could see the sound amp transformer being wired to the conn board as well to be powered. In fact, I'm banking on it as I finish my rewiring since I won't be using the step down transformer.

That's what I thought. There isn't a separate sound amp transformer in an European NUC, because the stepdown outputs both 100VAC and 17VAC. Naturally it won't work if you just want to bypass the stepdown.

Can I use 220 v NUC power supply for my NNC? ESpecially for the combo screen?

No major work on the Naomi these past few weeks but I finally started painting the last few bits..

Cabinet is completely operational now, it's just these last metal panels!

Outside of the Naomi, I've been working on the Naomi clone that was specifically purchased for "spare parts" (marquee, bezel and tube/chassis).

Rather than wasting it, I ended up cutting her down, install my spare MS9 and tube to make it a single player 360 cave shmups cab (I really would love cave sh3 pcbs, but I'm just not prepared to pay over 3k for them :))

Wired up a jamma harness to the clone cab which allowed me to connect the UVC to the cab..

Plugged in a DC to get the test suite and calibrated as best as I could

Installed the monitor to the cab and she's ready to go!

Unfortunately, the cp will need a replacement as it's quite hacked up to so it fit that crazy cp from highway

A normal Sega CP installed on the cab..

The gap is way too big to fit properly

Just for sh*ts and giggles, I lined them all up to see how it'd look..

Nothing too special.. (that clone cp is soooooo bad!!!)

And with the lights turned off and the cabs turned on, it's a wonderful sight!!!

Will hit noodleshirt and sellsells2000 for some artwork, will hit rs components up for some bits and bobs to wire up the cp the same way as the astro city..

The end is so close!! I might actually play a couple of games!

Final parts are slowly coming!

Today I got shipment from noodleshirt which contained the backlit marquee and instruction space.

Stuck the dollar coin insert and voila! The CP is as good as I could get.

Marquee art (went with SF2, but I'll get the marvel one too eventually)

Unfortunately underlit is nowhere near as nice ad backlit like it is on the blast city... I might look into putting some LEDs at the back and see if I can make use of the backlit film marquee

Waiting for the paint to dry on the last metal panels and also my repro "Naomi" bubble sticker to go on the font of the monitor shroud.

Once that's done, I believe the project cab will officially be completed!

You could try sellsellsell’s marquee perhaps? His light up real nice!

The final piece of the restoration puzzle has finally arrived!

Got my key ring and repro bubble sticker courtesy of Gate Ninety.

After the sticker! Just gives it that finishing touch!

Of course I had to get a keyring for the keys to the cab :)

Now to just enjoy all the gaming on this cab! Enjoyed some credit feeding of Gigawing 2 last week..
