What's new
If I knew this stuff I wouldnt be asking
The arcade (cab/board) specific questions are perfectly fine, this is the place to ask these questions for sure.
But stuff like... "If I have the option to use either VGA or DVI which should I use and why?" Doesn't (because it's not arcade specific, but general PC/consumer electronics).

I've got a L-AMI but I was only able to spend about 1 hour checking it out/over before I had to pack it away into storage.

I spent much more time (years now) with my Vewlix Capcom and Vewlix Diamond.
Yes I noticed the same thing with my Vewlix Capcom, the monitor was very dim even on max brightness setting.
I think these machines have just had a long life in the arcade and constant daily use has taken a toll on the LCD films and backlights.

The brightness level was a major factor in my decision to replace the LCD, that and the early Vewlix monitors don't do 1080p (1920x1080) only max 1360x768.
Last I checked Taito still stocked the new new (for lack of a better identifier) model LCD.
It's very expensive shipped however, well over 1500$ with all the fees/BS.

N94R0442A VEWLIX LCD monitor kit (NEW TYPE)JPY 162,800 / USD $1,470.91

This was the flyer that came with my new model LCD (that was replaced by the new new model).

And this was the old LCD that I pulled (and sold).

Why do you have so many in storage!?
The women I was living with/dating gambled all our rent money away at the casino, then once we got the eviction notice disappeared.
Took everything I had to settle up with them (I even sold off about 2/3rds of my PCB collection in the process). ;(

Cabs went into storage because I now just rent a bedroom from some people I met on Craigslist. :/

Let my experience serve as a warning, can't turn a ho into a housewife.

Wow @jassin000 that situation sucks, sounds like a crazy reddit post.

@tonyt76 i have a vewlix L AMI, the panel is not that bright but it is what i expect from 10 year old LCD tech plus being in use for awhile. My main TV is still my Panasonic plasma cuz i wasnt a fan of lcd back then. Still love this TV.

Has anyone had their Vewlix monitor repaired by a TV repair shop? Mine is very dim with brown bars on white scenes.

Also has anyone put a new 32” monitor inside of the original casing?

Definitely have. Look on Arcade Otaku, there's a recent thread about it in the Monitor section.

Has anyone here tried the monitor swap posted on O-A?

It looks like the monitor swap on the Chewlix is much easier to perform than on a Taito Vewlix.

On the Chewlix, the metal bezel & glass float over the monitor by 4 side brackets. Once you take this frame off, the glass is held inside by a series of large metal clips. This does not exist on the Taito Vewlix.

I dont understand how the monitor is held into the unit if your not using the VESA mount?

Is it just resting on the speaker boxes?

I was thinking the same, it looks like the monitor is resting on the 3m tape (glue) and since the monitor is light weight it does the "job".. what I see is a repo Vewlix monitor frame enclosure that attach to the monitor vesa mounting holes and to the Vewlix/chewlix back to secure the monitor. But getting to the monitor's menu to change colors settings per game will be an issue..

Damn was going to mention something about not having space under the bridge for the vewlixs but that just tops it.

Office Depot next to my work says it has 1 in stock @ $189 so did an in-store pickup and will find out. Figured I would give it a try, suppose I could return it if it doesnt work. Feel like it would have to be a lot better than the old stock screen and I doubt I would change the colors setting once I dialed it in.
