What's new
One thing that might work but would take some modification..

When I had my Virtual-On cabinet they used a normal speaker type at the end of a square tube to direct the sound through the small areas beside the monitors. I did not take any pictures nor could I find any to show you what I am talking about. But I think they would fit.

I was thinking something similar as well, like the speaker enclosures for Sega Super GT cab that look like this

Or maybe from a Daytona cab, which improves on the above by enclosing the driver.

Yep that's them. If I remember correctly they are just held in with straps.

With that said the speaker from the earlier Initial D cabinets and the Nascar cabinets will fit a Blast City also. You will however need to change out the connectors.

The ones like this..

I know this for sure because without realizing they fit I gave the speakers away .. and then I got a Blast City and realized they would have fit :(

In fact i happened to find a picture of my stupidity :(

I found this over at Neo Arcadia, unfortunatly I don't understand french at all. Maybe somebody here could help translating what they found on this topic.
But judging by the pictures somebody did a swap with these here:

They seem to fit just perfect.

Also founde these here.

Yeah that's a very similar model to the ones I linked on page 2. You can buy them from Digikey. I have a couple of the 5.9 OMs on the way.

Those seem to come in these enclosures possibly?!
Might add the low end bass everyone seems to want.

Great. I think I'll buy one pair and let you know how it has turned out.

lord, can't believe this hasn't been solved since I created https://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/w/Sega_Blast_City_Speakers 5 years ago.... you guys are disappointing me :P

translation from neoarcadia
- the one type of speaker that is pictured isn't known, something someone found on another forum
- the other type works, no shielding isssue, but the bass is weak

So, last we talked to toptone, they wanted a lot of money, because we couldn't buy in bulk. I'm getting to where it might be worth doing so.

How many would you need a commitment for to move forward?

The visaton 5.9 om are both too short and too wide to be a direct drop in replacement but you can bend the enclosure to make it fit snug

A lot of the drivers are 8 ohm compared to the Toptone which is 4 ohm. Would we just hook them up in parallel instead of in series?

I would be in for 8pcs.

Do you remember the specifics?

A few months ago I inquired as a business to buy these in bulk and they didn't even answer me. I fear the MOQ is in thousands.

Any updates on trying alternatives?

My blast speakers are destroyed and I don't really want to roll the dice on slightly less destroyed used racing cab speakers.

So I bought every speaker on partsexpress that might work.

One actually fits perfectly, but it's unshielded.

It's the Peerless Tymphany TC2X4FB00-08 (another part no is T04-1BX010001).

Since this thing exists it gives me hope that there might be something out there, that's also shielded, that will be a direct fit.

I've reached out to Peerless (and partsexpress) for what it's worth.

you might be able to buy aftermarket shields for it, or steal them off of another speaker.
