Hi all I just bought a system 246 to use on my new net city. My new city works without issue on a naomi 2. When I boot up the system 246 with tekken 4 or a Gundam game(with appropriate dongle) i get a 'boot program error. Boot file is not right' message. Any ideas?

could be the DVD rom drive, not too sure, had the similar exp myself when i was testing out a pair of 246 with T4, one worked and the other gave me that boot error, so i swapped out the working DVD drive to the non working one and it booted the game, also display to me "first time boot" as well or something like that, so if you happen to have a spare drive, try that out, but i know T4 is picky when it comes to DVD drives -_-

Thanks for the info. I actually disconnected the IDE cable from the drive and i get the same error. I have a Konami 573 with an IDE DVD drive in it so I'll try that.

Alright I tried with the other drive using both games and the same issue. I also copied Tekken 4 and burned a new disc but I get the same error.

Does it ding 3 times before showing that message?

tekken 4 is notorious for needing a specific DVD drive capable of certain atapi commands. Might want to troubleshoot the Gundam first. What game (dongle, dvd rev) is that? Sometimes just cleaning the connectors on the dongle and/or the 246 does the trick. Try some IPA and a toothbrush or fiberglass pen.

I get 5 to 6 beeps. During the beeps and a few moments after I see activity on the drive then no activity. After the beeps there is a 30 - 45 pause before i eventually see the error message.

The game is Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny: Rengou vs. Z.A.F.T. II.

I cant tell what the DVD rev is. The numbers I see on the disc are:
S-387
32778
V-0600288
GSD1 DVD0

The dongle has these numbers:
a 000006 003353 a
GSD1, Ver. A

Is GSD1 what you're looking for? I took a photo so you can see.

Looks like cleaning the contacts got me further. I got to a now loading screen on Gundam before it went back to the boot program error screen with the 'wah wah wah' sound. Im going to try burning a new disc.

check your 5v also.

i can recreate that error by putting in a mismatched dongle and disc. doesn't sound like that's the case here but just wanted to throw it out there. Your tekken 4 dongle wasn't reprogrammed by anyone was it?

I dont have a multimeter on hand so I'll get one tomorrow and check.

I don't know if the Tekken 4 dongle was reprogrammed but I do notice that someone hand wrote a 'D' after Ver. Maybe it was? I also notice the disc has TEF1 and the dongle has TEF3 on it.

Using the burned copy of Gundam hasn't changed anything. Still consistently getting to that 'now loading' screen but it immediately goes to the error screen still.

I actually have a spare JVS PSU on hand. Also I bought a multimeter today.

Original PSU in the Cab:
5v reads 5.419v

Spare PSU
5v reads 5.196v

I tried using the spare to boot the Gundam game but I get the same error. Today I noticed that it doesn't matter which disc(or no disc at all) I put in the drive. I still get to that 'now loading' screen for half a second before it goes back to the error screen. This is with the Gundam dongle in. If I put the Tekken 4 dongle I don't get to the 'now loading' screen.

So I figured out the problem. After buying a sys2x6 usb dongle I tried to play Soul Calibur 3 and got to a 'Start...' prompt with or without a disc. I took a look at the IDE cable and realized it was backwards going down to the motherboard. I flipped it around and now all of my games play including Tekken 4.
