I've been looking at this gun PCB for a while now, and trying to work out exactly what part it plays in the detection of a light gun.

https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/V/Virtua Cop 2 Owners Manual.pdf

From the wiring diagram on the manual, it looks as though it has about 4 connections:

1. RGBSG IN
2. RGBSG OUT
3. RX/TX RS232
4. GUN CONNECTIONS (TRIGGER / SENSOR)

I was wondering, if this board adds in the flash itself to the monitor (the reason why I think it would have an in/out) it could be that it does absolutely all of the calculations of the gun position, and so if the RS232 signal could be worked out, it could be used with light guns in a mame cab?

I was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this idea, or knows anything else about how this works?!

From memory it is rs422 to the mainboard, the video goes into the gun board and then from the gun board into the mainboard, hence has a handle on the video sync.

The guns are factory standard, +5v, gnd, trigger and optic.
