Hi all....

For years now I've been wanting to have my own setup at home but always been confused what to buy 1st, where to buy the setup parts from and the Janna boards.

All I want is some type of wooden box with 2 player joysticks and buttons on. Power supply, harness screen...

I'm overthinking it I bet, but.... I love all the 70's 80's and 90's arcade games, from Kung Fu Master to Daytona USA.

Do I need a different harness for the much older Janna/PCB boards? And different connectors for the audio outs in the boards?

Can I use a old 36" 4:3 TV normal TV? Or like some old games running with the screen on its side.

Is there some sort of place that sells these boards? As all I can find is zilch and eBay sellers seem to love selling bootleg versions where all I want is the original boards.

Any help would be appreciated

The thing you're looking for is called a supergun. It'll let you plug controllers and games into it and display them on your TV.

There are a million options for video output depending on the build, so you'll be able to find one that works with your TV for sure. Same in regards to controllers.

Older games will require different harness adapters if they are not JAMMA standard.

Forums like this, KLOV, AO, etc are a good start. Ebay can be okay if you know what you're looking for.

Also welcome!

Hi rewrite.

So, just looked up a supergun, it looks really good, but even with this would I still need different harnesses for the older boards?

Arcade games from the 80's what I want the most are for example a few: Nemesis(Gradius) - Kung Fu Master, Donkey Kong etc etc

Would I power this supergun with just the standard PSU? Or do they come with the PSU?

Lastly, the Joysticks, buttons, Ican get them ok, make my own mini cabinets up to put the buttons and sticks on/in as I do want 2 player sticks.

It's going to be expensive as I said, only want original boards, no bootlegs :D

You will need adapters for a lot of older boards, until JAMMA became standard (1987/88ish) it wasn't uncommon for each board to use a completely different connector or to be wired differently to another game with the same connector.

Whether you have a cab or a Supergun, adapters are going to be required.

For PSU, don't get one of the cheap $20 eBay jobs, get a Suzo Happ arcade PSU or a Mean Well bench PSU if you go that route. Or most Superguns support ATX so then you just need a standard ATX PSU :)

Older boards will need jamma converters, but families of boards can share the same one. Like there’s a standard for most old Konami games, or all Sega system 16 games. Here’s a bunch

Some superguns come with their own power supply. Most of the good ones don’t. You can get a decent arcade power supply for $30 or less though, and you should get a variable one (don’t use a pc atx power supply in my opinion).

The best supergun in my opinion is the HAS, and he will sell you a wiring harness that connects the psu to the supergun.

If you are DIY you can build your own “Minigun” which is also awesome. Minigun Supergun - An Open Source Supergun
