I dug out my board from storage. I've been messing with it. I forgot how hard this game is.

I found out on TCRF that there's a debug test mode available, but I can't get it work?

https://tcrf.net/Planet_Harriers

Any time during the game hold Service, then press Left x8, Right x8, Left x4, Right x4, Left x2, Right x2, Left, Right, Left, Right. Now press the Test button to enter the Test Mode menu instead of system BIOS test menu.

Can anyone here get it working (even on an emulator)?

Also, tried some of the codes on Gamefaqs: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/arcade/581679-planet-harriers/cheats

"Computer Help As 2nd Player" is some bullshit. What the code does is actually make the game even harder. The enemies take 2x amount of damage. However, what's cool is that it also changes the appearance of the levels. The first level is dark, not bright like it's normally.

it was ages ago, but iirc this was discovered by teammate CaH4e3. and in general, significant part of Hikaru 3D hardware was RE'd and emulated thanks to this debug mode

as of why it may not wok for you - I think here "service" means button at mobo, not JVS IO switch

PS: there is also country select code, not sure if it published anywhere

The button on the mobo is the one I tried using.

I take it left and right are for digital inputs? They correspond to VR Yes and No on the control panel.

I also tried inputting the code in Demul without success.

ok, checked it in debugger - it was vice versa, you should hold Player1 Service from JVS IO

A-ha. Does it matter which Test button I'm pressing? Is Test also supposed to be pressed when Service is held down?

I'll give it a try again today.
