I am in need of a gun for my Namco 2X6 and am wondering what I need to get to make it happen

I know I need the V185 I/O board but not sure if any other I/O boards are needed
What is the best gun to get for it?

Thanks

If you want recoil, I’d go with an original Namco gun, if not, a Happ 45 light gun will work. You will need a crt (arcade or tv) of some kind. If you want to use a tv, you will need a RGB to NTSC converter. For time crisis 3, you will need the v185 gun i\o and the wiring and the foot pedal switch. That’s pretty much it. For time crisis 4, more is needed as it isn’t a light gun game, I’m still investigating this part. Vampire night also isn’t a light gun game and requires a special gun, the CCD cameras and a rays pcb or an i/o pcb similar to crisis zone’s pcb.
time crisis 3’s gun I/O pcb is the exact same and even compatible to time Crisis 2. I will make a video detailing each set up this week. For now here is a video of mine working on a crt tv:

Very cool - so I cannot use an LCD - damn - was hoping I could

for now, you can’t use an lcd unfortunately. Strictly CRT. The one you can use an LCD is time crisis 4 because the game uses IR sensors instead of optical tech but most of the parts are expensive and even rare. I did manage to get some parts and will be doing some testing soon. I think the CCD camera setup also requires a CRT or a reflective screen so it can register where the gun is pointing. I can’t really tell you much about that set up because I don’t have it and this is the one set up I want to test because besides vampire night, Time Crisis 3 also uses this setup.

Bummer - I wonder if the Sinden light gun could be used somehow - I do have one of those and another on the way

I have contacted him about this and since then, I don’t think it’s gonna happen. We are going to have to do this ourselves.

If you want to make it work on an LCD you should try to use the V329 as I / O, since the System 2x6 does recognize several types of JVS, but I am intrigued to know what the RCA input of the SS256 composite video is for if the system uses captor infrared on your V329

That yellow rca port on the System super 256 is the navigation voice audio channel, it’s not a composite video port. I finally got my hands on a super system 256 and solved that “mystery”. I think the V329 I/O pcb is only exclusive on time crisis 4 though. I’m still waiting for my set to arrive to do some extra test. There is this one mystery I want to solve though, the Chinese seller I usually get my stuff from has this set of led sensors that supposedly work with time crisis 3. The only confirmed ways to play time crisis 3 are the regular optical setup or the CCD camera setup with the rays JVS pcb.

Uhh, I'm pretty sure I pulled a similar set of sensors when I scrapped a Toshiba rear projection monitor. They were parts of the monitor (likely related to the alignment of the image on the viewable screen). They would have nothing to do with the game or how it works.

Well, that solves that mystery, for Time Crisis 3 it’s either optical or CCD camera.

So if I have a V185 board the gun games will startup fine?
What about Ridge Raver V?
Is there a best board to put in the 246/256?

Time crisis 3 and 4 will boot up fine without an i/O board, you won’t be able to do anything but watch the attract mode and intros and the dips don’t respond anyway. Ridge racer V will fail to boot with out the Force Feedback wheel. The patch should fix that but I’m not sure if the game will boot with out an i/O pcb though. The best pcb for all the fighting games is either the stock Namco 246 Jamma B pcb or the sega/Capcom JVS jamma pcb. The racing games have different i/O pcbs but regardless, it’s still JVS, same thing with the Gun pcbs, it’s JVS.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the V185 pcb will boot up any 246/256 game since it’s a JVS pcb and both systems are JVS compatible. Unless the game has PlayStation controller support for button inputs, the pcb just works for booting up games. I did that test with the games I have and the multi dongle games- except the racing games and taiko games.

Here is what I am using with my 246C and 256
What else do I need to get?

That cool! I also build my own cables. I’m still really interested in trying out the CCD CAMERA setup for Vampire Night and Time Crisis 3. I’m just missing the appropriate gun and the cameras. I already have a Namco Rays JVS pcb to make it all work. Now, the thing I want to test is if this setup still requires a crt screen or if I can use an LCD screen (probably a flat screen TV since they have a glossy reflective screen unlike computer monitors.) I’m still waiting for the rest of the time crisis 4 pcbs to finally do some testing but I did confirm that you can use a CRT tv for the other light gun games.

Time crisis 3 does not boot so I must need something else

That’s weird, it can boot with out an i/O pcb, have you also tried using the Namco jamma B pcb as well? It could be an issue with the Iso image as well. The game also does have a sort of long boot sequence
