Why did Kasaski’s CV1000 thread get locked?

I don't see why we should contact mods on other forums about our policies?? If Kasaki removed his multi from other forums that's unfortunate. We certainly didn't tell him to do so.

I’m more than fine with the mods making and enforcing rules for what they see as best for the forum. It’s the foundation of the house. And this is their house.

What is confusing is why this project, which has been bubbling since December, which initially got many many page deep with the thread Rewrite started, then went 13 pages deep with plenty of development notes and conversation on Kasaski’s thread, then seemingly out of the blue the hardline no Cave multi stance gets taken. Months of conversation has gone on without intervention, then the hammer falls.

Do what ya’ll feel but I don’t understand why Rewrite+Kasaski’s threads didn't get nipped in the bud months ago if the policy that’s being described is the line in the sand it seems to be.

The project will live on elsewhere so that’s fine, and I don’t think anyone wants the forum to have legal trouble due to a project developed here, but it’s a shame to see something so cool be shuffled off.

Legality aside, I believe the heart of this forum is about people who love to build and use projects like this.

People keep making this claim that "CAVE is litigious!", but I have yet to see any evidence of their litigiousness in the wild. Can someone please point to any legal action that CAVE has taken against anyone that isn't the Katana/SDOJ takedown?
I have an interview in my archives with Trap16, talking about his Ketsui mods, where Cave rather strongly asked him to remove all or part of the project. It's a bit old at this point, but it's a Real Thing. I find it easy to believe that, as one of the last still operating devs in this space, they're actively protecting their stuff.
Or maybe the fact that their potential customers were already buying them from somewhere else also?
People want original stuff. There's always going to be a huge market for originals, vs boots. It's just as true as the fact that boots will always be available, if they're not too difficult or expensive to make. The fact that the people behind these releases got cold feet simply indicates that their margins were too slim to take the risk, IMO. Bootlegs became a factor, they did the math, and they pulled the plug. A shame, for sure.

But there's a real lack of potential being passed by in this scene. Possibly because every dickhead with a jigsaw is selling shithouse cabinets with 40,000 games, or selling stolen art on plexiglas marquees with no concern for copyrights. It's a rotten sort of scene in several respects. But people will buy originals if they're offered, of this I am quite sure.

Back to the point of this thread: moderation is hard, transparency is good.

@Kasaki - Cool logo. I'd follow your project if it didn't require a Twitter <spit> account. No RSS even?

I know time flies, but that was over 10 years ago. The hacks originally came out in 2012. There was an Xbox 360 port of the game two years before that. I assume he was contacted by Cave because it was bringing attention to the fact that, hey, you didn't have to buy a port to play the game, you could just download all the roms for Mame.

I really didn't spend much time putting my site together yesterday, I just wanted to get on with things. A twitter acc was made just so people can follow me while I build up the site more. Still looking for ways to keep people updated without the need of any socials or using forums so I'll look into implementing RSS. If anyone has any other recommendations just DM me 👍.

And to be clear, I dont really plan to migrate/be active on any other forum. Making a personal site from scratch for blogging to myself about my projects has always been a goal but never got around to it. When I was working on my EZ2DJ related tools in 2023 I really wish I documented the Reverse engineering process more, so when I began modding my cv1k and eventually start on kiniro, it just coincidentally timed well with what some others were doing in the scene, so i decided to start posting here as i didnt have to motivation to build my site just yet.

Don't play dumb ,I did not say mods just site to admins ! , I've honestly no idea if kasaki is active on other forums never mind offering his multi, the only place I've seen it mentioned or discussed in any real instance is here ,all that was asked was could a source be provided for the claim of the "offical re-releases", privately if necessary nothing about a-p policies ,mate people here visit various forums we are all in the same hobby it isn't one over or against the other all have there niches ,the locking of the thread raised questions from users of this forum and afar that is all.

I still don't understand your point. Why should admins from each site talk to each other? Give me an example. I'm trying to understand.

i'm not any site admin so how could i give an example but i'm fairly sure there has been heads up shared between forums on scammers and the likes before ,but yeah I don't care to be honest. But like i said a claim was put out there with no backup or proof that is all,im out I've no interest in dragging this on to be honest.

Can you firmly denounce the rumors that you and or Darksoft are not selling a Cave Multi right now under the table?

I won't deny or confirm it.

If I would make my own multi, it would not require all that soldering. Something plug and play, ready to use, with a PCB included and with empty modules similar to the Namco System 1 multi, that can be programmed, something very user friendly.
and If I would have that multi I would not announce publicly or show it off. I also wouldn't sell it here on the site or in any online shops. I wouldn't break our site policy.

Is it possible to follow @kasaski on anything that is not X now then to see the progress on this? Or is the thread up again for just development status purposes?

I thought I had email notifications turned on, but I guess not!

10 years was a long time ago. I can barely remember what I had for breakfast.

The rules have indeed been loosened as projects have evolved and we've listened to member feedback, but I note I haven't edited our current guidelines in over 4 years without any issues so they must be fairly robust now. It has always been the case that we have been against destroying original hardware, pissing off active developers, and becoming a sales hub or support forum for somebody's product. The reasons you were forced to migrate elsewhere are the same reasons you're citing for locking @kasaski's thread. Messy business this moderating lark, isn't it?

Water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. I'm certainly not going to throw any personal insults around or threaten to dig up decade old PMs.

Criticizing development work while claiming your solution is better—but not able to show it. Sounds like you are upset you aren't getting any praise for it.

You know what the real problem is here

If it ends up in the pockets of the kings on this forum, it's all good... But if you challenge something or make something that can hurt there sales they don't like, you get these moderated topics and things that get deleted or banned... You even get private PMs warning you. I've had several over the years ..

Do you know why this topic is live now? Because a lot of people have seen this thread come alive now and people have an opinion about it. And it now can't be deleted nor moderated, and that's how it should be. This is a great forum, but it feels more and more like a political party... My way or the highway.

And that's MY opinion, MY thoughts

I still have a lot of respect for you guys, you guys who started this forum and kept it alive with all your hard work. But maybe it's time to change the rules a bit and don’t favor your own pocket over someone else s..

Peace!

I know that CAVE is actively looking for people breaking their IP property. Yesterday, someone that I can't quote, got a C&D for selling CAVE stickers. Yesterday!
So people telling it's 12 years ago since they released their last game, they certainly don't know what they are talking about.

Is there a way I could get summon this hypothetical multi ghost and get the kit so I don't have to drop another $1,000 to Link for a bootleg and use my current Cave?
