Welcome! So the question was how to avoid crimping a ton of wires and looking up pinouts? I bought my Vewlix 20-pin input harness from Lemony Vengeance. He's been less available recently, so I bought my last harness (a JAMMA loom for an Astro) from a French maker called Japan-Arcade on Ebay.

Did you try the default username and password? There's a rescue system for resetting the firmware, but hopefully you can do something simpler. If the default username and password doesn't work, ask for support in the official PixelFX Discord.

Got back from travel, looked up pinouts, and tested all the LS244, LS245, LS139, LS20, etc. I could find. None had continuity between GND and VCC, but every GND pin connected to JAMMA GND and every VCC pin connected to JAMMA +5V. So, that looks okay. I can't find any evidence of a short between...

Good clue. Do you know off the top of your head what I should check, or do I need to look up the datasheet to figure out which continuities are expected vs. not? I took a look earlier today and realized I would have to learn more EE basics just to understand the diagram.
