Some, like me also end up with cracked shells from poor packing, etc. I would think an empty shell would be in descent demand.

@caius aren't there common issues with the custom T.T-1, etc' chips that you have created repro's of? Is there any way of testing or knowing if these could potentially be the issue? I too have this pcb that just posts a black screen.

Yes, there's a power supply connected. Next thing I'll try is connecting it to my desktop PC, but I don't see how that would make a difference. . . .

@Evan did you ever figure out your issue? I just recently acquired a new VP-598 from China, and after I load a file, and as soon as I hit the program button, it hard, shuts my computer down, almost as you describe. I am using a Microsoft Surface tablet in conjunction with a Lenovo laptop...
