"Bad C RAM 1" Message on Pac-Man Screen

OK, I got the screen to come on finally. I had to wiggle the edge connector once it was connected to the board. I am now getting the boot up screen (sort of - it cycles through ghost sprites), but it seems to restart each time it finishes and I hear a clicking sound in the cabinet somewhere...

"Bad C RAM 1" Message on Pac-Man Screen

I did find a bad trace on the RAM chip in question. It was on the back of the board. I repaired it by soldering it to the via that the original trace connected to. I then checked the continuity from the pin on the RAM to the various points along the board that I could find. Still no luck...

"Bad C RAM 1" Message on Pac-Man Screen

I also took out the little board that sits above the RAM (video board?). When I replaced it, I bent a pin. Then I bent another pin. Now it's back in there correctly. I may have ruined it by bending the pins too much.

"Bad C RAM 1" Message on Pac-Man Screen

I got the replacement RAM today (2114N). I started by replacing the bad RAM chip as mentioned above. That just gave me a blank screen. The monitor is powering up because I can see the orange glow at the base. So, I tried replacing all of the RAM. No luck. I still just get a blank screen. Any...

"Bad C RAM 1" Message on Pac-Man Screen

No, just a solder sucker, solder wick, and a soldering iron. I could probably pull it off with the wick.

"Bad C RAM 1" Message on Pac-Man Screen

After successfully getting power to my cabinet, I am now met with an error message on the screen: It displays this after going through what looks like a self-test (YouTube video), displaying all of the sprites in the top left corner of the screen, then filling the screen with animated garbage...

    No power to Pac-Man monitor

I got the fuse block replaced and now I have signs of life. Unfortunately, it's just a screen full of characters and bits of sprites. That's my next project. Here's the after shot: I decided not to solder the wires to the fuse block to make it easier to remove the harness in the future

    No power to Pac-Man monitor

I did some more troubleshooting today and I have to admit that I'm a little embarrassed. I took the power supply and harness out of the cabinet so I could work on it on my bench. I hooked it up to power and there was nothing. I then looked at the schematic and realized that I had to "close" both...

    No power to Pac-Man monitor

I haven't read the link you sent, yet, so hopefully the answer will be in there. I just measured the voltage going into the filter and it's ~115v. However, coming out of the filter and into the transformers it's hovering around ~5v (it should be ~115v). So nothing in the cabinet is getting...

    No power to Pac-Man monitor

I just acquired my first arcade cabinet, a 1980 Pac-Man cocktail cabinet. However, when I plug it in, I only hear some crackling from the speaker for a few seconds and then silence. There's no picture on the monitor or sounds coming from the game. I measured the voltage on the power cable and...

    Hello from Montgomery, AL USA

Hello, I just joined the site last night. I'm here because I just acquired an original Pac-Man cocktail cabinet with what looks like an original Pac-Man board inside. I'd like to restore it and get it in working order. I thought that this seemed to be an active forum with lots of members...
