In my experience it saves to the cards, and my character/cars/story progress are all saved and usable next time I play. I think the cards have chips in them that holds data.

Taobao might be the move, thanks for that. Resurrecting this thread. Was the concensus that Initial D 4 export cards WON'T work in stage 5-8 arcade machines? Asking as ID4 export cards seem to be the only obtainable options at the moment, and I have an ID6 arcade - and I'm in need of some cards... After reading this thread it wasn't...

I recently acquired a stage 6 machine and I'm hoping to be able to switch to stage 7 and 8 somewhere down the road. Are the other ringedges w/ security key the only thing I'll need to upgrade to the other stages? I'm fairly positive the answer is yes for stage 7, but stage 8 has the separate...

I'm on the hunt for driver/license cards: stage 4 (JP version) thru 8. My machine is a stage 7 but looking for stage 4/5/6/7/8 cards if you have them.

Pre-Christmas price drop. Hoping to sell and get into a noir/pras3 during my week off so I have time to tinker... $2450 for just the Blast City. Pi2jamma and/or Dreamcast w/ padhacks negotiable on top.
