What's new
Hey all! Got my MiSTerCade today and after some figuring out sound stuff (changing SW0) I noticed that some (not all) games switch player controls. Meaning P1 controls p2 and vice versa.

The games I tried offhand were Altered Beast, and some (not all) of the street fighter games have players 1 and 2 swapped. Is there something I didn't do correctly?

EDIT: Aaaaand obviously I just need to read things a bit closer. :)

From the MiSTerCade FAQ:
Problem: The Player 2 controls are operating Player 1 in the game, or vice-versa.
Solution: Pull up the MiSTer menu, go right one screen, and select ‘Reset player assignment”.

Well lookie who got everything sorted lol

I noticed the same thing, I'm wondering if it's something we can fix and then update the files on github maybe? So it doesn't happen for everyone going forward.

Hello everyone,

I dont have a mistercade but are ya able to play gamepad mode on it with your arcade? Like can ya play console game with it?

@TodoRojo MisterCade mount is FIRE! We're not even at it's final form yet. @Derick2k top cover inbound for greatness.<3

Yes, it has additional USB ports for more controller options. You can even hook up 4 controllers to it for 4 player games. I show it off briefly here in my video.

It seems to be a sporadic glitch with the MiSTer OS that happens once in a while no matter what controller(s) you're using.

If you pull up the MiSTer menu, go right one screen and choose Reset Player Assignments then that should resolve the issue.

Yeah I'd say it's really not a huge deal and a quick fix. Although, Alien Syndrome wont keep the setting. And pressing start still hits start for both players. I know AS is kinda weird with the MiSTer, even Zim's JAMMA expander had issues with it, albeit a bit different. Tried resetting the assignments, reset the button config, saved, and rebooted, and it didnt save. Not a huge deal, but I do like me some Alien Syndrome from time to time.

Make sure you report those Alien Syndrom control glitches to Jotego - it's a core problem, not a MiSTercade problem. His System 16 cores are still Beta and many of those games still have glitches.

MiSTer changed the controller order logic in 2019 or 2020. Now, player number is assigned based on the order in which controllers are activated. So pressing a button on P1Joy will assign that device to P1. The next controller to press a button will be P2, etc.. This is true each time you load a core. If you're using the merge coin dip switch, press a player button first to avoid random player assignment.

That's great info - I had no idea! :D

Just an FYI, I just found this out yesterday but if you're running the wrong region ROM, at least for SNES, the MiSTer tries to auto detect the monitor refresh on your TV from the ROM and it could be messed up. Also ROMs from different region like PAL runs at different speeds at least on my US TV. This happened to me with Super Mario World. I dumped all the ROMs I had from my retropie setup and I didn't know that they weren't all US region based ROMs.

All PAL games run at 50fps instead of 60fps by design - they're that way on original hardware as well to match the refresh rate of the TV standard. It's definitely unusual if you're used to NTSC versions of everything.

Some games only got a PAL release and run faster than intended with NTSC settings.

Lol I came across this with the Expander as well. Any time Id try to play a Genesis game, my monitor would freak out and Id have to reset the MiSTer.

Then I realized I had somehow told the MiSTer to use the PAL version of ROMs. Derp. 8o

Hi,

I setup my Mistercade some days ago and installed it in my JAMMA cabinet.
I'm really happy with it so far, except for one point: The cutoff level for green is a bit below that for red and blue, so all colours are slightly tinted. You can see it in colour bar test pictures where the dark patterns get black for the green colour bar while still visible for red and blue. I can get it perfectly adjusted on the monitor neckboard, but then every other connected PCB has an ugly green tint.
Did someone here have a similar issue or have any idea where I can look at on either the Mistercade or the DE-10? Or is there any chance you can correct the colour levels through MiSTer system settings?

Thanks for any helpful tips.

All 3 colors have the same circuit and output levels. Make sure you have ypbpr=0 in MiSTer.ini. Shoot me an email if that doesn't solve it.

Thank you for the quick response.
After some more testing and verification of the correct value for ypbpr, it seems to be an issue with the Monitor adjustment not with the Mistercade: The colour balance differs with the level of contrast. All the other PCBs I've compared the Mistercade with seem to have lower RGB levels, so that's why in my case green dominates at the Mistercade's higher RGB amplitudes.
I'll fine-tune the RGB-cutoff and colour amplification the next days. Then I'd expect it to be fine again.
Thanks anyway and best regards ^^
