I have a problem I'm trying to solve, and it seems to be somewhat unique. Basically, I have a Naomi Universal Cabinet, with a JVS encoder in the control panel, and I want to decode this in the base so I can get discrete input signals.

The plan is to put a lot of different stuff in there, from consoles like the NeoGeo, which require no controller encoder, to Saturn, Playstation, PC Engine etc, which do. I already have adaptors for all these systems, because I've been using the NeoGeo pinout as an intermediate step for like 30 years.

So basically, JVS -> Neo DB15 -> other

But these things don't seem to exist. No one but me wants to decode JVS? I find that so hard to believe I'm simply doubting my search fu. The closest thing I've found is the Jammafier, but that's like $300+, and a JVS -> JAMMA board off AliExpress that doesn't f**king work (see attached image), and let me tell you the refund procedure here leaves me wanting.

So I'm hoping someone else has some ideas for me, because writing my own decoder for a microcontroller seems like slightly more effort than I wanted to put in. But it's that or $300 at this point, as near as I can tell.

Alas, no. No such project seems to exist. I ended up using the JAMMA thing shown above. Free from Aliexpress!

Still, not ideal.

In order to decode JVS you need to make a tap, I can share a picture if you need one. This will give you the datastream using a simple serial capture program.

I kind of assumed that simply logging the JVS serial communications would be, you know, not enough to convert that to a DB15 plug I can use with my existing adaptors. Unless I misunderstand what you're saying, I don't see how accessing the raw datastream will solve the problem.
