As with anything I obsessed with, I have to go all out and try and make something that doesn’t exist, or take something that DOES exist, and improve upon it and share it with the interwebs so everyone can benefit.
I designed and fabricated this drum from scratch. I came up with a design that reduces mechanical cross talk compared to the arcade as well as completely eliminated any mounting or passthrough holes on the drum face - each drum face has a solid face. This adds to hit consistency as well as making it look a lot cleaner.
I also built the circuit board from scratch using protoboard and am using a custom-modified hybrid firmware from two existing projects and added my own additional code and QOL features.
This firmware has many modes and has a built right in to the OSD - you can even change the threshold to your heart’s content on-the-fly without any rebooting or reflashing - or without even exiting the game. It can process digital as well as analog signal output.

I designed and fabricated custom sensor housings for this build that mimic the Sensors used in the Arcade - otherwise only available by importing the official Arcade sensors…that’s one of my favorite achievement from this build
I’ll be making a github eventually that goes over every step of the process including my drum design, circuit, and firmware. I planned on doing this several months ago, but I changed directions 180 degrees and went in a totally different, better direction with this build.
The circuit costs less than $30 to build. Even cheaper since you’ll probably have most of the items on hand.
