Hi. I want to share an improvement I have discovered after studying the 2 versions of The Newzealand Story sets.
When I plugged my new set board, I noticed the sound was really bad comparing with the sound of old set board. The midi sound effects (arrows, bombs, impacts, jumps...) were really low and with bad quality.
After inspecting the 2 boards differences, I saw The Newzealand Story old set used one 4558D for sound mixing.
And The Newzealand Story new set used 2 x 4558D. This is because new set is a re-launch of the game using unsold boards of the game Kabuki-Z, and Taito didn't adapt the sound section of the game as it should be.
So, what we need to do is to inactivate one 4558D section and put the correct resistors values.
For that you only need:
- Quit R25, of 8'2Kohm
- Replace R20 with the previous 8'2Kohm resistor that was on R25
- Replace R17 with 6'2Kohm resistor
Enjoy the sound fix to the fullest.
