From the bowels of the internet, before AI took over and started making sh*t up, there were rumours of a remade version of MS5

Then weird videos showing gameplay from an account with no other similar content

and v2

Which lead me to this account, with a massive amount of similar content, the source
https://www.youtube.com/@MrBeacon00/videos

And then way down past all the turtles this mediafire download, owned by the same account, which still works

Has anyone ever seen/heard/played such a thing before?

Has anyone had luck running the ROMs on original hardware? I tried to convert it for my Backbit Platinum but must have made a mistake somewhere, as it just boots to the Backbit BIOS logo over my UniBIOS and then just hangs on a black screen.

Running MS5remake on OG hardware will be about as hard as running MS5 vanilla

There are two sets in the download the "nd" (not encrypted P, decrypted C) set is the best place to start I think

all of the standard MS5 bootleg challenges
M1 is oversized, but can be worked around with a 27C4001 (lift pin31 and jumper to NeoZMC pin 9)
S1 does not exist (as with all MS5 it actually does exist, hidden and mashed onto the back of C8) need the much coveted and almost impossible to find mslug5fd set which has S1 split out, or maybe some mslug5nd sets, or from the vortex cart set
Needs decrypted C-ROMS (can get these from mslug5fd or mslug5nd)
V1 + V2 are 8mb each, split them, and write them to Toshiba adapters

+ some new ones
P1 is 6MB, so maybe split into 2MB + 4MB?

Reasonable to guess that all of the changes are on the P-ROM, so anyone capable of bootlegging MS5 onto OG hardware could update P1 and P2 for MS5 Remake

Slug 5 works on the Backbit cart though, so I hoped this might work. I know some romhacks do not work though, I was going to try to figure it out this weekend. If anyone makes any progress before then, please post here.

Figured it out and got it fully working on the backbit.

I was using a patched version of NeoDecode on the rom, but that’s not necessary with this rom. Just need the decrypted metal slug 5 files in MAME format with the program rom replaced by the Remake one. Then, hex edit the Remake program ROM to have a different id than 0x268. I just changed it to 0x368.

Then it should load and play just fine

EDIT: To make it as easy as possible, here's the files that will work with the backbit platinum

I watched the V2 video from the first post alongside a no death run of vanilla Slug 5. Both took the same paths, but since there were no differences through the first 4 missions, I'm assuming there are likely no differences on the branching paths that aren't shown.

A minor one, in the Final Mission, where the Spider-like Slug is, there is also a Slug Gunner available to take instead. This could however be a difference between one run being Level 8 and one Level 4. Not sure.

Continuing on in the final mission:

The Stone Turtle boss is put in right before the second to last area transition. Looks pretty good, fits into the game well. Only criticism would be the 'damage effect' is dissimilar to a typical Slug boss, very small area lights up.

There is an entirely new sequence to begin the final area with gears and chains in the background, interesting background, although looks a little out of place style wise (very smooth). There are some enemies here and a 'helper' NPC (Achilles), but he doesn't seem to do anything in the gameplay shown.

Then an added tower to climb leading to the final boss. Tower also looks a little either out of place style wise or didn't have a final pass to 'finish' the look. Plus there are no enemies here, just some jumps to make.

The Final Boss has a new portion (Ptolemaios) added as a middle phase. (Previously only two phases) This one is the best of the bunch, seems fully fleshed out. Looks great.

And while searching around I found that "Metal Slug 5 Remake Final Version" is available on Fightcade. I can't tell if this is the same as the V2 from the first post.

Great description thanks for taking the time to write that up

If you need P2 4 MB P1 can be only 1MB so you need P1 1MB P2 and P3 4MB

Added this to hbmame, it seems to run perfectly fine. I'm no good at this game, so I couldn't say what if anything is different from the standard version.

Thanks, added this too. The roms are exactly the same as the Remake v2, except for the p1 rom.

For anyone adding these to real hardware, they are fully decrypted already.

Hi! any chance of geting this MS5 hacks in the format required by...you know...darksoft multi?
